Disclaimer episode 6 recap and review: How truthful is Nancy’s book?
As a dedicated fan of this gripping series, I find myself utterly captivated by the latest episode that unfolds Catherine’s story. The tension is palpable as she fights tooth and nail to protect her family from the relentless Stephen. Her life experience has undoubtedly honed her survival instincts, and it’s fascinating to witness her cunning maneuvers against a seemingly insurmountable adversary.
In episode 6, the situation shifts against Catherine, though she’s not quite in trouble just now. However, things could change drastically if Stephen doesn’t succeed in his attempt to undermine the Ravenscroft clan. Caution: Potential spoilers follow!
Kindly be aware, the discussion that follows may reveal plot points from episode 6 of the series available on Apple TV+. It would be best to watch the most recent episode first to avoid any spoilers.
In a state of distress, Catherine (Cate Blanchett) hurriedly returns home in search of her son Nicholas (Kodi Smit-McPhee), only to find he’s absent. Subsequently, they receive a troubling phone call revealing that Nicholas is hospitalized, with his condition critical and the doctors fearing he might not fully recover due to possible brain damage. The situation is grim. Yet, matters become even more dire as Stephen (Kevin Kline) expresses a chilling desire for Nicholas’ demise.
Unknowingly (and somewhat foolishly), Robert extends an invitation to Stephen to accompany him to the hospital, where his own child is being treated. Meanwhile, Catherine remains oblivious to this arrangement. As fate would have it, Catherine arrives at the scene just as Stephen appears ready to administer a lethal injection to her son. Naturally, nobody else witnesses this incident. Instead, all that onlookers saw was an agitated Catherine pushing Stephen violently to the ground.
Stephen receives care from a nurse, who administers him both pain relievers and sleep aids. Robert expresses regret on behalf of his spouse and invites Stephen to return whenever he pleases.
Instead of simply staying put with folded arms, Catherine won’t. Before Stephen takes his next action, she chooses to intrude upon his residence unexpectedly. As they both prepare tea, Stephen discreetly mixes sleeping pills into Catherine’s drink. After giving him a hard slap, Catherine sips her tea and declares that it’s now time for her perspective to be shared. It seems like she is about to disclose her part of the story, an account we are all intrigued by. However, even if she speaks truthfully, I highly doubt Stephen will accept any of it at this point. We have moved beyond that stage.
Catherine’s side of the story
Throughout the episode, we do learn some of Catherine’s side, and it turns out it is a lot different than Jonathan’s mother illustrated. For starters, Catherine never seduced Jonathan. His mom wrote him as an innocent young man who was seduced and manipulated by Catherine. But according to the latter, that’s not how it happened. And I believe her. After all, Jonathan’s mom was not there. She wrote the book based on pictures and the few details she had about what happened to her son. Of course, she is going to paint Jonathan as a sweet, innocent man, it’s her child!
In Episode 7 of the drama, we’ll delve deeper into Catherine’s tale, and I’m really looking forward to finding out more!
Disclaimer episode 7 premieres next Friday, Nov. 8, only on Apple TV+.
