Red Eye season 2 spoilers follow.
Season two of the thriller Red Eye is now available, with Jing Lusi, Lesley Sharp, and Jemma Moore reprising their roles. While Martin Compston joins the cast as a new character, the show also brought back a familiar face from season one in what ITV promises will be a shocking and exciting twist.
Richard Armitage makes a quick return as Dr. Matthew Nolan in episode 5 of the new season, appearing when the main characters find themselves in a difficult situation and need his help.

Armitage shared that his return to the show was a secret from most of the cast. He explained they worked hard to keep it under wraps, and he was listed as ‘The Professor’ on the production documents to maintain the surprise.
The actor expressed his excitement about the show being renewed for a second season, saying he was thrilled for everyone involved at both the show and ITV. However, he was initially disappointed to learn it was unlikely his character, Nolan, would be back. As it turned out, though, a return wasn’t completely off the table.

I really liked how Jess naturally went to Nolan for help,” he said. “After everything he went through in season one, and then finding out what happened to her with her boss, Sir George Chapman, it made perfect sense he’d want to help her, even if he did it quietly.
“We decided that the surprise might add to the adrenaline of the ‘who’s next’ scenario.
We find him at home, but quickly thrust into unexpected chaos, much like in the first season. He’d just started to relax with a glass of wine when the doorbell rang, and he found himself facing a life-or-death situation, forced to perform an emergency blood transfusion using whatever he could find in his dining room.
He can essentially perform complex emergency surgery using just basic supplies – saline solution from his refrigerator and a suture kit he carries with him. It really speaks to his skill and resourcefulness!

Armitage explained that he always believed the scripts by Peter Dowling would be really engaging and stand out.
What I enjoy most about this genre is the intense, confined feeling and how the tension constantly builds. It’s like a classic ‘locked room’ mystery, but set high in the air with a rapidly increasing number of victims. The constant uncertainty – anything could happen, and anyone could be next – makes for incredibly gripping drama.
Red Eye is available to stream on ITVX and airs on ITV1.
The latest issue of Living Legends is now available, and it’s dedicated to the incredible Dolly Parton! You can purchase ‘Dolly at 80’ at newsagents or online for only £8.99.
