Did Roman just up and leave in High Potential?
As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the anticipation for High Potential is reaching new heights. The case-of-the-week structure combined with a season-long storyline promises an engaging narrative that will surely keep us hooked.
Although it’s evident that “High Potential” will follow a weekly format with standalone episodes, there’s also an ongoing narrative thread running throughout the season focusing on Morgan’s former partner, Roman.
In the first episode, we learned that Roman left fifteen years ago to buy diapers and never came back. Though Morgan has pondered his disappearance all this time, it’s not just about satisfying her curiosity. She seeks clarity for her daughter, Ava, who feels out of place in the family and is burdened by a sense of unease similar to a dark cloud hovering over her.
As a curious gamer, if Roman truly valued having me around, why did he suddenly vanish? I’m not buying the story that he just ‘jumped ship’. I’ve decided to use my fresh consultant role as an opportunity to uncover the truth. It’s part of the agreement for me joining the team – unraveling mysteries is what makes the game worth playing!
Maybe Roman did just up and leave in High Potential
At that point, the authorities elected to conduct a minimal investigation regarding Roman’s disappearance. They were unconvinced by Morgan’s claim that something suspicious was taking place. Instead, they believed he had voluntarily disappeared.
It’s a tale as old as time, right? A man gets cold feet, goes out for diapers (or cigarettes or milk), and then just leaves. He never returns, and most woman accept that they were with a deadbeat. Ava thinks her dad was a deadbeat, and that’s what hurts her. These parents who skip out never consider the damage they leave behind—or they do, but they don’t care.
What was Roman up to before he disappeared in High Potential?
Showrunner Todd Harthan discussed the storyline with TVLine, highlighting instances where Morgan may have missed some warning signs. Despite her exceptional intelligence and sharp eyesight, it’s understandable that even she could overlook potential red flags. Isn’t it often the case that we tend to disregard warning signs when we are deeply involved with someone we care for?
It seems Roman might have been involved in some secret activities that Morgan hadn’t known about. One possibility could be that he was collaborating with a drug lord or a criminal mastermind, which could explain his sudden disappearance.
By the finale of High Potential Season 1, we can anticipate that the mystery will be solved. However, it remains uncertain whether the character in question will be found dead or alive. Given a 15-year disappearance, it seems probable that he might be deceased. But, there’s a small chance he vanished to protect Morgan and Ava.
High Potential airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on ABC.
