Did King Charles’s former right-hand man Michael Fawcett sell £1.3million home to pay off son’s £700,000 debts?

Did King Charles's former right-hand man Michael Fawcett sell £1.3million home to pay off son's £700,000 debts?

As a seasoned journalist with years of experience under my belt, I must say that it is heartening to see institutions taking steps towards addressing gender inequality. The fact that women candidates are being considered first in certain competitions shows progress and a commitment to change.

Prior to holding the position as CEO at The Prince’s Foundation, and eventually becoming one of the future King Charles’s close advisors, Michael Fawcett earned additional income during his time as a footman at Buckingham Palace on weekends, working part-time at a men’s clothing store.

It is likely that Fawcett was deeply concerned about his children, Oliver and Emily, experiencing the same hardships he had faced. As a result, he named them as directors of his events company when they were only 22 and 24 years old, respectively, to give them an early start in business.

Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out as expected, and I regretfully have to share some unfortunate news about Oliver. At 28 years old, he has experienced a significant setback. Only two years after becoming the major shareholder and sole director of 303 London Ltd, a company specializing in ‘television program production activities’, he’s been forced to file for liquidation due to accumulated debts totaling close to £700,000.

Oh boy, I’m absolutely drowning in debt! Here I am, a fan who’s head over heels for this company, but it seems we’ve got a mountain of financial troubles ahead. We owe an enormous sum of £550,000 to HM Revenue & Customs, and there’s another £13,000 in overdue corporation tax. On top of that, banks and other institutions are waiting for a whopping £110,000, while our dear landlord is owed a not-so-small £12,000. It’s a tough time, folks, but I believe in the power of passion and resilience!

Oliver seemed to be following closely behind his father, who was moving swiftly as a top executive earning £95,000 per year at The Prince’s Foundation. Although he couldn’t instantly match his father’s income, Oliver’s own company received payments from the foundation – totaling £16,000 in 2016, £1,770 in 2017, and £400 in 2018. These payments were for creating short films about events at Dumfries House, a stunning Palladian mansion in Ayrshire that the King preserved as a national treasure.

Back then, those magnificent times feel like they happened long ago. In 2021, Michael, known for his role in providing toothpaste to the royal family after Prince Charles had an accident playing polo, stepped down from the foundation due to accusations that he attempted to arrange British citizenship and a knighthood for a wealthy Saudi businessman.

Lately, I mentioned that Michael, aged 61, along with his spouse Debbie, a former maid at Buckingham Palace, successfully sold their five-bedroom house, situated only a mile from Hampton Court, for approximately £1.3 million. This property was purchased by them in 2003 for £490,000. Interestingly, it was the same year that Fawcett parted ways with the Royal Household after an investigation led by Michael Peat (later Sir Michael), who had served as Charles’s Private Secretary since the previous year.

The investigation exonerated Fawcett from any wrongdoing, however, it was discovered that he had received many gifts during his tenure as a royal servant.

After a brief pause, the tenacious Fawcett resumed work with Charles, this time as a freelancer.

I have confidence that Oliver will exhibit the same tenacity he’s known for. He chose not to discuss his present challenges, but may find solace knowing that after selling their house, his parents made a substantial profit of £800,000 on the deal and used it to buy a bungalow eight miles away – a sum ample enough to settle what 303 owes to HMRC.

Anne faces up to interrogation

Anne Robinson, who turns 80 next week, says her changing face continues to attract attention.

2004 saw The Weakest Link host undergo a facelift; in an interview with The Oldie magazine, he shared: ‘For quite some time after that, men would approach me for a conversation, only to later inquire, “I was asked by my wife if I could ask you about the place where you got your facelift.”‘

At a social gathering, Gordon Brown’s female companion engaged me in a deep discussion about inheritance tax. Towards the end of our talk, she unexpectedly asked, “What was the price tag on your face?

Jagger’s girl: Fun has gone out of fashion

At thirteen years old, Elizabeth Jagger made her debut in the modeling world, sharing the runway with her mom, Jerry Hall.

Sir Mick Jagger’s 40-year-old daughter expresses dissatisfaction with how the industry has evolved since her father’s time.

‘Fashion was a bit more important when we were young,’ she tells me at London Fashion Week.

‘It was more passionate, and there was maybe a bit more creative freedom.’

At a dinner held by Alexa Chung to honor the debut of her line for the traditional British brand, Lizzy opted to don a Barbour jacket.

‘The fashion world has become slightly more corporate,’ adds Lizzy. ‘It’s all very money-based.

‘Even the cameras you see at the shows are robots.’

Lord Alli splashed out on renovating his penthouse

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but express my delight in learning that despite his generosity towards Sir Keir Starmer and the Prime Minister’s wife, Victoria, Lord Alli has not overlooked his own personal indulgences.

It’s true that the individual, who is 59 years old, expressed a desire for a change in his living situation. His 5,000 square foot penthouse in Covent Garden, purchased for approximately £18.35 million four years ago, didn’t quite suit him as he had hoped. To make it more appealing and give it a feel similar to a boutique hotel, he decided to carry out a comprehensive renovation.

Originally having three bedrooms and one bathroom, the property now boasts a single bedroom, two bathrooms, and a study. Additionally, it features a beautifully crafted rooftop garden ideal for entertainment. It appears that Sir Keir finds this change quite pleasing.

Apart from staying there on election night, it’s also been reported that he has held fundraising events at this penthouse. This could potentially be why he listed £20,400 as unspecified ‘accommodation’ expenses in his Register of Members’ Interests.

Piano Competition ‘rigged’ against men

The Leeds International Piano Competition, which received an introduction from Sir Keir Starmer, has faced allegations that it manipulated the competition in favor of male contestants.

The leaked guidelines for the jury suggest: If two contestants tie in their scores vying for one position and one is a female competitor, the juror should initially favor her.

A representative notes that while they aren’t compulsory, these actions form part of our larger commitment to tackle the persistent problem of gender inequality.

Dame Judi Dench fights to save the trees

As James Bond’s boss M in eight James Bond films, Dame Judi Dench was used to fighting evil forces.

In her latest role, the Oscar winner is taking on a very different adversary: the Church of England.

She’s trying to save trees being axed at Ripon Cathedral to make way for a development.

Actress Judi, who serves as an ambassador and supporter for the Woodland Trust, has expressed her wholehearted endorsement for the effort to safeguard the historic tree in Ripon, in addition to the other thriving city trees currently at risk. These trees serve as irreplaceable habitats.

‘I hope a solution can be found to protect this conservation area.’

The cathedral’s chapter says new trees would be planted to mitigate against the loss.

Burrell’s sad, ‘last goodbye’ to Diana

Without being modest about it, Paul Burrell, aged 66 and once Princess Diana’s butler, proudly shares in a recent documentary about Althorp House that he was the one who bid farewell to her as she was laid to rest within the grounds of her childhood home in Northamptonshire.

“Burrell communicated to Althorp House (the residence of the Royals, C5) that he would always remember the instant when he scattered earth upon a plaque, inscribed with ‘Diana, Princess of Wales and her years,’ and expressed his deep sense of sorrow at that moment.

Garrick: Women ‘subject to the same process as men’

Women are now permitted to join the Garrick Club, yet they’ve been cautioned against entertaining lofty ambitions or exceeding their expected roles.

The executive board of the club granted membership to Dame Judi Dench and Sian Phillips as ‘prominent’ members. However, their official publication has expressed concerns that some women feel all female applicants are given ‘preferential, expedited consideration’.

It is indicated that women will undergo the same procedure as men. Importantly, candidates do not submit applications nor publicly express their intention to join through the media.
