Did Gordon Ramsay make the right choice on Hell's Kitchen episode 7?

As a seasoned gamer of reality TV shows, I’ve seen my fair share of cooking competitions and know that what we see on-screen is just the tip of the iceberg. The intricacies of kitchen politics, camaraderie, and the pressure cooker environment are often hidden from our view.

When you watch Hell’s Kitchen at home, it’s important to remember that we’re only seeing select moments. These might include parts of a dinner service or even reward challenges, but they don’t capture everything that happens in the dorms or behind-the-scenes of the show itself.

Despite understanding that we won’t get to witness everything, we still form opinions about the various cheftestants, along with the actions and words of Gordon Ramsay. Naturally, this extends to our views on who he’s choosing to eliminate from the contest as well.

In episode 7 of Hell’s Kitchen Season 23, titled “Harmony in Hell,” the female contestants found the kitchen particularly challenging. Not only did they fail to win the incentive challenge, but they also faltered during dinner service. Consequently, it was the red team who had to decide which two members would face elimination.

Did Gordon Ramsay send home the right person on Hell’s Kitchen?

At the conclusion of “Harmony in Hell,” it was determined that Executive Chef Meghan Ellis would be leaving the competition, as chosen by Gordon Ramsay. Despite the fact that Meghan didn’t appear to be the poorest chef on the red team or make the most errors during the episode, this was her second time being sent home due to her team’s decisions.

In Ramsay’s view, he decided to send Meghan back home primarily because it seemed her team lacked confidence in her abilities. The fact that they wished her departure after consecutive dinner services suggested a lack of backing for her in the kitchen. As Gordon Ramsay emphasized, this indicated that she was not yet prepared to serve as his head chef at the Foxwoods Hell’s Kitchen branch.

Was Chef Ramsay justified in his decision? To be honest, it wasn’t an easy call for me. I even revisited the episode this morning on Hulu to assess her performance in the kitchen more thoroughly. Although I believe she wasn’t abysmal, her action of abandoning her station to aid someone else raised a significant concern. It’s crucial not to neglect one’s own responsibilities for the sake of helping others, as it could lead to one’s work being compromised.

Nevertheless, we must concur with Chef Ramsay that if your squad doesn’t stand by you now, how can one be a leader in his kitchen? It’s intriguing to observe whether the red team can recover from this defeat. Of course, let’s all hope for improved collaboration among them.

What was your opinion on Gordon Ramsay deciding to eliminate Meghan? Was she the correct contestant to leave the competition?
