Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Story Gets Exciting New Tease From Returning Star

Fans can expect the return of the infamous Bay Harbor Butcher in season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection, which promises to keep the suspense and excitement going.

Dominic Fumusa, who plays Detective Oliva in Dexter: Resurrection, has shared his excitement about the scripts for the upcoming second season. Before filming starts in April, Fumusa posted on Instagram that he’s incredibly impressed with the writers and believes the new episodes will be amazing and surprising for viewers.

Okay, seriously, I just got my hands on the scripts for Dexter: New Blood season two, and wow! I’m completely blown away by the writers. They’ve managed to craft something incredible for every single episode – it’s going to be insane. You guys are not prepared for what’s coming!

Details about the second season of Dexter: Resurrection have been kept secret since it was renewed in October 2025. However, production has moved quickly, and the writing for the new season is finished. Filming is scheduled to begin around New York City on April 13th.

The most recent news about the show came in late January from writer Scott Reynolds, who hinted that Detective Wallace, played by Kadia Saraf, will continue her pursuit of Don Framt—also known as the New York Ripper—in the second season. Clyde Phillips, the creator of Dexter: Resurrection, had previously confirmed that Don Framt will officially appear as a villain in season 2, following the reveal of his identity at the end of season 1.

According to Fumusa, season 2 of the show will be packed with shocking twists in every episode. Detectives Wallace and Oliva will be on a fast-paced chase to catch the New York Ripper – and likely Dexter himself – in the beginning of the season. Dexter intentionally left a key file for Wallace to discover, giving the detectives a significant lead in the hunt for this elusive serial killer when the show returns.

After a hugely successful first season, expectations are high for the return of Dexter: Resurrection. The Showtime/Paramount+ series broke viewership records and received critical praise, even winning awards. Just recently, it earned two Saturn Awards: Best Thriller Television Series and Best Guest Star for David Dastmalchian’s performance as Gareth.

Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection brings back Clyde Phillips as showrunner and Scott Reynolds as executive producer, and also includes several familiar faces in the writing team. Scott Buck, Katrina Mathewson, Marc Muszynski, Nick Zayas, Kirsa Rein, and Tanner Bean are all returning writers for the new season.

Besides Michael C. Hall (Dexter Morgan), Jack Alcott (Harrison Morgan), James Remar (Harry Morgan), and the actors who play Olivia and Wallace (Fumusa and Saraf), most of the cast for season 2 hasn’t been revealed yet. We can expect a new group of killers for Dexter to pursue, but everyone is especially eager to find out who will play the New York Ripper. Also, Paramount hasn’t confirmed if Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Uma Thurman, Emily Kimball, Eric Stonestreet, or Emilia SuĆ”rez will return for the new season.

While the specific date is still to come, Clyde Phillips has announced that the second season of Dexter: Resurrection will debut in October 2026. This means the new season will air in the fall, unlike the first season which premiered during the summer.
