Devil May Cry: release date and more
I can hardly contain my excitement! The highly-anticipated next installment of Devil May Cry, the iconic video game series, is finally making its way onto our TV screens, exclusively on Netflix starting from April!
The game series titled “Devil May Cry,” which debuted in 2001 for PlayStation 2, is about to appear on our screens. This thrilling urban fantasy action series is being overseen by Adi Shankar, who also directed Castlevania (2017). Exclusively available for streaming on Netflix.
Release date
starting April 3rd, the much-anticipated Devil May Cry series will be available on Netflix! With a total of eight thrilling episodes, this adaptation promises an exciting ride. A sneak peek at the opening sequence can already be found on YouTube under the title “Rollin” by Limp Bizkit and animated by Studio Mir. Excitement for this project was announced back in 2023 during Netflix’s Drop 01 event.
In English dubbing, the character Dante is voiced over by Johnny Yong Bosch instead of the usual voice actor Reuben Langdon from the games. This change has stirred up controversy within the fanbase. At this point, it’s unclear if iconic characters like Virgil will appear in this season or future ones.
Devil May Cry: origins
This franchise, established in the year 2001 by Hideki Kamiya, is one you might recognize from other works like Resident Evil 2 (1998) and Bayonetta (2009). In Devil May Cry, we delve into the story of Dante, a demon hunter, battling invaders who aim to harm humanity on Earth.
As a devotee of captivating tales, I’d like to share that my inspiration for crafting the Devil May Cry series stemmed from the Divine Comedy by the esteemed Italian poet, Dante. Interestingly, Hideki Kamiya, in his own words, conceived this action-packed saga as a response to a setback during the development of a Resident Evil game. The original concept for the first Devil May Cry was actually intended to be Resident Evil 4.
Man, I hit the jackpot with this game! It’s been sold over 32 million times, and it’s not just a simple video game anymore. There are comics, novels, an animated show, guides, collectible items, articles, and even action figures based on it. It’s like the game world has expanded beyond the screen and into real life!
Reactions
Regarding responses, people aren’t overly excited yet, but they’re intrigued and eager to watch how the series unfolds. Given that the same studio behind Castlevania is involved, some enthusiasts feel optimistic that it will turn out to be an excellent production.
For quite some time now, many enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating it. As with most adaptations, there are still a few doubters due to the fact that game adaptations are frequently less successful, such as the upcoming film version of “Until Dawn,” which will hit theaters this year.
Others have mentioned that the recent anime adaptations on Netflix are quite captivating, implying it could be a fascinating series to explore. Are you looking forward to it?
