Devil May Cry 5 and Dragon's Dogma Director Hideaki Itsuno Has Left Capcom After More Than 30 Years

As a long-time fan of Hideaki Itsuno’s work, I find myself standing at a crossroads, much like Dante did in Devil May Cry 5. After three decades and five months with Capcom, Itsuno has decided to embark on a new journey, leaving behind the familiar battlefield of his long-time employer.

In a recent announcement, Hideaki Itsuno – the mastermind behind “Devil May Cry 5” and upcoming “Dragon’s Dogma 2” – has decided to leave Capcom, a studio he had been associated with for over three decades.

In August 2024, Itysun will be bidding farewell to Capcom after a service spanning 30 years and 5 months, as he shared on Twitter. He expressed his gratitude for the unwavering patronage over the games and characters he oversaw, encouraging everyone to keep supporting Capcom’s future creations.

Itsuno mentions that this month marks the beginning of a fresh endeavor for him in an undisclosed location. In his own words, “I aspire to design engaging and aesthetically pleasing games that will leave lasting impressions, perhaps even surpassing those I have previously created.” So, keep an eye out for his upcoming masterpiece!

It was our expectation that Itsuno would eventually create a new fighting game with Capcom, as he had previously worked on titles such as Rival Schools, Darkstalkers, and Street Fighter Alpha. However, after discussing this with him back in 2019, it now seems that project won’t materialize.

Nevertheless, we eagerly anticipate discovering what Itsuno is going to create outside of Capcom, and we extend our best wishes for his upcoming venture.
