“Devastated” ITV contestant rushed to hospital after ‘freak accident’ on new show

A contestant on a new ITV gameshow was rushed to hospital after a “freak accident” on set.

99 to Beat is set to debut this weekend, featuring a competition involving 100 contestants who will participate in unique challenges. The last contestant remaining will receive £25,000 as the prize.

On the other hand, Ryan Thomas, the co-host alongside his brother Adam, disclosed that one contestant had to leave the show due to an incident during filming.

The girl had twisted her ankle during the celebration, which was a great disappointment since it prevented her from continuing in the competition, leaving her undoubtedly heartbroken.” (via OK!)

“But freak accidents happen in life, and it is such a shame – the show must go on.”

The charm of this game lies in its inclusivity, as it allows both young men at 18 and elderly women at 80 to engage in it.

A spokesperson for 99 to Beat said in a statement: “Contributor welfare remains our top priority, and this production was assessed and monitored in line with our robust health and safety processes and in consultation with external health and safety advisors.”

Recently, the brothers had a chat with Digital Spy, where one of them referred to the show as “one of the wildest series we’ve ever encountered.

He noted that many folks are drawing parallels to the popular series, Squid Game. However, let me assure you, there’s no loss of life in this case, which is a relief! (He chuckles.)

“It’s just a great, ‘family fun’ game show. I don’t think there has been anything out there like this. I do feel like it’s a perfect game show, because not only can families watch it at home together, they can also play along at home with the show as well.”

Speaking of some of the contestants, Adam said: “I think the oldest contestant was in his 70s! The age range was from 18 upwards. It doesn’t matter what you’re necessarily good at. You just don’t know what games are going to be coming next.

Additionally, another curveball is introduced – there’s not just an individual challenge, but a team game too. This certainly adds a new dimension to the entire event.

99 to Beat launches on Saturday (March 22) at 6pm on ITV1.
