Devastated family of sports presenter Duncan McKenzie-McHarg share their ‘unimaginable shock’ after his death at 41 – as Eddie McGuire reveals his memories of his TV star protégé

The family of Duncan McKenzie-McHarg, a well-known sports presenter, has released a sad statement following his death at the age of 41.

A former sports reporter for Channel Nine, Triple M, and Stan was found dead in Downtown Los Angeles after a fall from a building, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

Official records show his body was found on a roof.

A family representative told the Daily Mail they were ‘completely shocked’ by the death of McKenzie-McHarg.

The family announced with deep sorrow that Duncan has passed away. He was a beloved son, a dedicated father to his son, Harrison, and a treasured brother to his three siblings.

‘His passing has come as an unimaginable shock, leaving our family heartbroken and at a loss.

Duncan was a remarkable person who brightened the lives of everyone he knew. He was known for his positive attitude, kindness, and sense of humor, and he brought joy and laughter to all those around him.

‘Our Darling Ducky.’

The family has asked for privacy and stated they won’t be making any further statements at this time.

It was so incredibly sad to hear about the passing of TV star Duncan. I was really touched by Eddie McGuire’s heartfelt tribute on Monday – he described Duncan as a bright, optimistic friend, and you could really feel the connection they had. It’s just a reminder to cherish those sunny personalities in our lives. He passed away in Los Angeles, and I know Eddie, like so many others, is feeling the loss deeply.

I first started in media back in January 2010 as a reporter for Triple M’s Hot Breakfast with McGuire. I really enjoyed my time there and stayed with the station for nearly three years, getting my feet wet in the industry!

The news of Duncan McKenzie-McHarg’s passing was deeply upsetting for all who knew and loved him, as he always brought such a bright, cheerful, and unique energy to everything he did, McGuire said in a statement.

His friends were amazed by how he transformed his naturally cheerful and friendly personality into a talent that charmed even the most famous people, allowing him to build a successful career entirely on his own.

‘Our deepest condolences to Duncan’s family and friends. We are all so sad.’

McKenzie-McHarg has said he decided to become a sports presenter because he admired watching McGuire on television.

In a 2023 interview with Radio Today, he shared his appreciation for how TV sports reporters seemed to enjoy presenting their reports, almost as if they were performing.

‘Eddie was so quick and versatile,’ he continued.

‘Funny, but could also deliver serious news.’

Stan also paid tribute to McKenzie-McHarg.

Stan Sport is mourning the loss of Duncan McKenzie-McHarg, a valued member of their team. A spokesperson for Stan expressed deep sadness and extended condolences to Duncan’s family, friends, and colleagues.

Following her time at Triple M, the reporter worked at Channel Seven and Channel Ten as a presenter. In 2017, she became Fox Sports Australia’s US correspondent, a role she held until May 2022.

He landed his ideal job as a sports presenter for Stan in Los Angeles in August 2022, and continued in that position until his untimely death.

He’s worked with several famous people, including tennis star Todd Woodbridge from Australia and American athlete Madison Keys.

Throughout his career, he had the opportunity to interview numerous iconic athletes, such as Shaquille O’Neal, Tom Brady, Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic.

People in both Australia and the United States who follow sports are deeply saddened by his unexpected death.

He was famous for his lively and captivating way of presenting, which allowed him to connect with some of the world’s top athletes.

Fans have taken to social media to pay tribute to Duncan.

‘RIP Duncan. We all love you so much,’ one heartbroken fan wrote.

‘Why, just why?’ a second asked.
