Deus Ex and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Studio Eidos-Montreal Sees 75 Staff Laid Off

Eidos-Montreal has made the announcement that they will be reducing their staff, marking another instance of job losses at one of Embracer Group’s studios.

Recently, the studio put out Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and is now working jointly with Playground Games on the forthcoming Fable reboot, scheduled for release in 2026. Unfortunately, these recent layoffs affect 75 employees at Eidos Montreal, as one of their projects is nearing completion.

The studio clarified that their team members’ commitment and abilities are not in question, however, due to limited resources, we can’t completely reassignment them to other active projects and services at this time.

We have some exceptionally skilled and seasoned professionals preparing to join the job market, and our goal is to assist them during their career changeover.

These job cuts occur after news surfaced last year that Embracer abandoned a new Deus Ex game at Eidos-Montreal, resulting in the termination of 97 employees. This unfortunate event is just another instance in a persistent and disheartening pattern within the gaming industry, as another Embracer studio, Crystal Dynamics, recently let go of 17 team members last month.

Today, we’ve shared with our studio team that we may need to part ways with as many as 75 valued colleagues, due to one of our projects reaching completion. This decision isn’t a reflection of their commitment or abilities, but regrettably, we don’t have the resources to fully redistribute them at this time.
