Destiny Rising, the unannounced Destiny mobile game, might still be in development by Bungie and NetEase Games

As a die-hard Destiny fan who has spent countless hours exploring the rich universe of this game, the recent turmoil at Bungie has been a rollercoaster ride. The layoffs and cancellations left me feeling like I was staring into the Traveller’s empty gaze. But hearing whispers of Destiny Rising, a mobile version of our beloved game, keeps a glimmer of hope burning in my heart.

Following the team behind hit games like Halo and Destiny, namely Bungie, who were recently affected by layoffs a month ago, there was uncertainty regarding the mobile version of Destiny. Nevertheless, it appears that the anticipated First Person Shooter (FPS) game for mobile, tentatively named Destiny Rising, could potentially still be in development by Bungie together with NetEase Games.

The layoffs at Bungie sparked doubts about the future of the Destiny franchise

Based on the job postings from around mid-2021, whispers began about a potential collaboration between Bungie and NetEase for a mobile game within the Destiny universe. According to these whispers, it was suggested that NetEase Games had teamed up with Bungie to create a first-person shooter tailored for mobile devices.

Initially, only job postings served as the primary evidence about a new project. Yet, confidential sources hinted that these job openings were related to the game and could expand the Destiny series, igniting much conjecture. Nevertheless, these whispers remained unverified, and Bungie never publicly commented on the matter.

Contrarily to some recent speculations, video game insider Kurakasis posted on X (previously known as Twitter) that Destiny Rising is not cancelled, despite the major reductions at Bungie. Although he confirmed the title as Destiny Rising, Kurakasis clarified that there has been no official announcement of NetEase’s mobile game being scrapped. He added that the project remains active and under development.

220 employees at Bungie were let go recently, but 155 of them found new positions within Sony Interactive Entertainment and approximately 40 started working on a new game as part of a newly established sub-studio under Sony. This comes after more than 100 layoffs towards the end of last year, which significantly shrank the company’s staff. Additionally, Destiny 3 Payback was canceled, leaving the Destiny series without a clear future for a while.

With these encouraging updates, fans can relax and anticipate some promising developments regarding Destiny Rising and potential Destiny games across various platforms. Stay tuned for further updates as I’ll share more information as it becomes available.
