Destiny: Rising Season 3 feels like an apology to free-to-play players

Story Highlights

  • Season 3 boosts free Pinnacle Energy, finally easing Destiny: Rising’s daily grind limits.
  • Free-to-play players get more Lumia Leaves, meaning more pulls without opening wallets.
  • The update feels like long-overdue relief.

Good news for fans of mobile shooting games like Destiny! Season 3 of Destiny: Rising is coming, and the developers at NetEase Games are finally acknowledging what players have been saying since the game launched: the amount of free stuff you get in the game hasn’t been enough.

Season 3 is bringing a new event, the Free Pinnacle Energy Drop, and significantly more Lumia Leaves, which should help players progress faster. However, it remains to be seen if these changes are a meaningful improvement to the game’s progression or simply a short-term fix to address player concerns.

The Pinnacle Energy Problem, And Why Season 3 Matters

I’ve put a lot of time into Destiny 2: Rising, and I can tell you that getting Pinnacle Energy is a huge deal. It completely dictated what I did each day. Once I reached the daily limit, I felt like I was done playing for the day, even though I still wanted to keep grinding, which was really annoying.

The system was initially intended to promote healthy gaming habits, and that makes sense in theory. However, it becomes frustrating when you’re trying to gather resources for a new character or just want to play for an extended period without being penalized.

Season 3 introduces a new way to get free energy: a season-long event where players receive a significant amount of Pinnacle Energy each day. This is a welcome change, as it allows for longer and more satisfying gameplay sessions.

Free-to-Play Finally Gets Breathing Room

Pinnacle Energy isn’t the only problem in Destiny Rising. Getting enough Lumia Leaves – the in-game currency used for summoning – has always been difficult for players who don’t spend money. The developers hoped early rewards and monthly bonuses would keep the game fair, but my experience shows that isn’t really the case.

I wasn’t making as much money as I hoped, even after putting in a lot of time. To help with that, Season 3 will increase how much Lumia Leaf you can earn for free through events like Dawning. These events will offer rewards worth over 2,000 Lumia Leaves, plus extra Pinnacle Energy and materials to upgrade your gear.

This is great news for players like me who enjoy gacha games. Getting more Lumia Leaves means I can get more chances to win characters without spending as much of my own money. However, I suspect this is only a short-term solution.

Why This Update Actually Matters

It’s not simply about getting items for free; it’s about game developers finally focusing on what players want. While these kinds of systems are common in mobile games, Destiny: Rising is different. It’s designed to be a game where you play, collect loot, try different strategies, and tackle challenging content. However, the way the game was set up actually hindered my ability to do those things.

Season 3 understands that players enjoy Destiny because it’s enjoyable, not because of artificial time constraints. By giving players more freedom, even for a limited time, Destiny: Rising is making its game systems better match the fun of its gameplay. As someone who has experienced the challenges of this update, it truly feels rewarding.
