As a devoted movie enthusiast with a busy schedule, I find myself constantly seeking out new and exciting films to watch, especially during weekends when I can finally unwind after a long workweek. This weekend, I am particularly thrilled about the release of “Despicable Me 4” on VOD, following its theatrical premiere earlier this year. Being a fan of Steve Carell’s comedic talents and the lovable Minions, I can hardly wait to see what mischief they’ll get up to in the latest installment.

Here’s everything new that’s available to watch this weekend!

In this hilarious crime comedy, I, Matt Damon, team up once more with director Doug Liman, known for “The Bourne Identity”. This time, I’m playing Rory, an ex-Marine turned reluctant partner to Casey Affleck’s ex-con character. We’re planning a daring heist at a mayoral fundraiser, but things go awry and we find ourselves on the run from both the police and a vengeful crime boss. To add to our troubles, we decide to “team up willingly” with my therapist, played by the talented Hong Chau, in an attempt to evade capture and stay alive.

The Bikeriders

Where to watch: Available to stream on Peacock

Despicable Me 4, Netflix’s Mission: Cross, and every new movie to watch

Genre: Crime drama
Run time: 1h 56m
Director: Jeff Nichols
Cast: Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, Tom Hardy

“The Bikeriders” chronicles a motorcycle club’s transformation from an initial group of passionate enthusiasts into a formidable gang, spanning a period of ten years. Jodie Comer portrays Kathy, a character who finds herself immersed in the world of biker gangs following her encounter with the hotheaded Benny (played by Austin Butler).

From our review:

As a passionate gamer, I’d say “Immersing myself in ‘Bikeriders’ feels like stepping into a vintage arcade game. The catchy tunes, the intricate costumes, and the cinematography that weaves myths – it’s all a delight! The ensemble cast, featuring stars like Michael Shannon, Mike Faist from ‘West Side Story’, Damon Herriman known for ‘Justified’, and an unrecognizable Norman Reedus as a rugged Cali biker, bring their A-game. You can almost taste the dusty air of California in this film! It’s a journey about admiring the enigmatic characters unfolding on screen – just like Hardy’s character does with Marlon Brando in ‘The Wild One’. A moment when you find yourself asking, ‘What if I could be them?'”

New to rent

Despicable Me 4

Where to watch: Available to rent on Amazon, Apple, and Vudu

Despicable Me 4, Netflix’s Mission: Cross, and every new movie to watch

Genre: Comedy
Run time: 1h 34m
Directors: Chris Renaud
Cast: Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Pierre Coffin

Once more, the transformed antagonist-turned-spy Gru is back for another thrilling escapade! In “Despicable Me 4,” Gru shifts his family to a new residence due to the return of his old foe Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell), who’s bent on taking revenge. As the family settles into their new abode, Gru’s teenage neighbor aspires to walk in his villainous footsteps, while Gru’s minions choose to don superhero costumes instead! It certainly promises to be a packed storyline!

From our review:

The fourth installment of “Despicable Me” is packed with intriguing concepts that fans enjoy, such as Minion humor, Gru’s contrast between being a villain and a family man, and extravagant villain spectacles. However, these elements are put together haphazardly, lacking a clear narrative flow. The movie is like a disorganized symphony where different musicians are playing strange instruments (or perhaps Minions with instruments). Occasionally, the music becomes pleasant – a short, enjoyable saxophone solo emerges amidst the noise. You just need to endure the loud drums and off-key woodwinds around it.

Dandelion

Despicable Me 4, Netflix’s Mission: Cross, and every new movie to watch

Category: Drama

KiKi Layne, known for ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’, plays Dandelion – a budding singer-songwriter on a nationwide tour, dreaming of a big break she worries might never come. Her path crosses with Casey (Thomas Doherty), another disenchanted musician, and their relationship unexpectedly sets Dandelion on the journey to finding her unique artistic voice.
