Actresses Nicola Coughlan and Siobhán McSweeney, who gained fame from the popular show “Derry Girls,” will join forces once more in a thrilling upcoming venture.
Actors known for their roles as Clare Devlin and Sister Michael in the popular ’90s sitcom will reunite for a performance at the National Theatre, where they will star in John Millington Synge’s play “The Playboy of the Western World“.
They will have The Sixth Commandment’s Éanna Hardwicke, Declan Conlon, Lorcan Cranitch, Megan Cusack, and Marty Rea perform with them on stage.
Caitríona McLaughlin is set to take charge of the upcoming stage production, running at the Lyttelton Theatre from the 4th of December 2025 through to the 28th of February 2026.
In a regular day at Pegeen Flaherty’s pub, an unfamiliar man arrives, boasting about supposedly slaying his father, disrupting the course of her life.

Instead of being ostracized, I, Christy Mahon, find myself embraced by the locals. As I seamlessly blend into the rhythm of village life, I gain popularity and even win races, much to their delight. However, this peaceful existence is shattered when an unforeseen stranger enters the scene…
In all three seasons, the actors Coughlan and McSweeney played prominent roles in the critically acclaimed comedy series titled “Derry Girls,” written by Lisa McGee. The show concluded its run in the year 2022.
Instead of another season or a film spin-off, McSweeney expressed little interest in these possibilities.

In her conversation with Digital Spy in 2023, she expressed that what makes shows exceptional is the desire to see them conclude, without diluting their quality by extending them over long periods of time for many years.
I believe we’ve set the characters up in a positive situation – filled with hope and tranquility. Why don’t we keep them that way for now? After all, Sister Michael seems to be a constant presence in my thoughts, always by my side.
In the BAFTA TV Awards, the last season of Derry Girls was a massive hit, with McGee being honored as the Best Writer in the Scripted Comedy category and McSweeney receiving the prize for Outstanding Female Performance in a Comedy Series.
As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to announce that Digital Spy’s first print magazine, “British Comedy Legends,” has arrived! Grab your copy from your local newsagents or order it online for the same amazing experience. Priced at just £7.99, this is a fantastic deal you don’t want to miss out on!
