Derek Hough has a baby on the way! DWTS legend announces wife Hayley Erbert’s pregnancy

Derek Hough and his wife Hayley Erbet have a baby on the way. 

On Tuesday, they shared a delightful video on their Instagram profiles, revealing that they will be welcoming their first child as a family.

Hayley, aged 30, revealed the ultrasound image of her unborn baby boy, showing a growing lump clearly underneath her white gown.

She shared a tender kiss and embrace with her husband, 40.

In a touching caption, the expectant mother expressed her amazement that such a significant life event could be associated with something so tiny.

Approximately two years have passed since she experienced a shocking health crisis, resulting in an urgent brain operation.

She recovered from the procedure and has returned to dancing on stage with her husband, 40.

Derek and Hayley have been married since 2023 and envisioned welcoming children at some point. 

Last year, Derek shared with E! News that they plan to start a family someday. He added, “We’ll have to wait and see what life has planned for us, what’s coming our way. Perhaps some playful kids dancing around the house.

It was nearly a year earlier the couple were grappling with uncertainty.

In December 2023, during Hayley’s Symphony of Dance tour in Washington D.C., she was severely injured with a cranial hematoma and had to be urgently taken to the hospital. Following this, an immediate craniectomy was performed on her.

A cranial hematoma occurs when there’s a buildup of blood, specifically either inside the skull or the space between the brain and the skull, as explained by Mayo Clinic.

Several weeks passed, and the dancer from Step Into… The Movies needed a cranioplasty – a surgical procedure to replace a significant part of her skull that was taken out during the urgent operation.

As a die-hard fan, I can hardly contain my excitement! The remarkable comeback of Erbert had us dancing in the aisles again as the couple successfully wrapped up their 70 city Symphony of Dance tour on May 19, 2024. Truly, it felt like magic to witness them grace the stage once more, and I’m still basking in the afterglow!

After her surgery, the pair celebrated their initial wedding anniversary on August 26, 2024.

Previously, the pair shared their harrowing health incident during a show episode titled “Dancing with the Stars”.

Derek shared that he was waiting for her to appear on stage, but instead, the stage manager informed him that she wouldn’t be coming out. On the sidelines of the stage, she suffered severe seizures and appeared to be dying, leaving Derek with a profound sense of terror that’s difficult to articulate beyond simply stating fear.

Hurriedly, we took her to the hospital with her costume on. Then, the doctor approached me and explained, “She’s suffering from a critical case of brain hemorrhage; we must perform surgery immediately.

He expressed concern that she may not survive and if she does, she won’t remain the same individual.

Later, Derek recalled the instant his wife stirred awake. “So, what occurred? Aren’t we just dancing?”, she asked him.

In an attempt to express it aptly, let me share this: The simple knowledge of her presence, her being within, brought a sense of tranquility beyond words. She was none other than Hayley, my beloved spouse. And so, our adventure together commenced.

Later on, he mentioned that her recuperation involved relearning how to walk and needing to wear a helmet while her skull was healing.

‘I was struggling. I was just so impressed by her strength. She’s my beautiful miracle,’ he said.

Hayley then shared that when she woke up doctors told her she might not be able to walk.

Yet, Hayley refused to consider that option, admitting that being a ‘determined’ individual, she exerted herself to the utmost, not just to walk once more, but also to dance again.
