Coogler expressed his years-long ambition to collaborate with Denzel Washington, stating that “Denzel is like family to me now… I’ve been eager to work with him since the beginning. I believe he’s the most exceptional actor currently alive, and in terms of his cultural impact, it’s beyond compare. For a long time, we’ve had discussions about this collaboration.

Coogler expressed surprise upon hearing Washington’s previous statements about their collaboration, but he acknowledged that there’s no denying the truth of it. In simpler words: Coogler admitted to being taken aback when Washington mentioned their work together, but he didn’t deny that it wasn’t real.
