Denzel Washington reveals he's going to be in Black Panther 3 but as who?

As a gamer with over three decades of Marvel gaming under my belt, I must say, Denzel Washington joining the MCU is a game-changer! I remember when Black Panther first made his appearance in Captain America: Civil War, and now seeing him in the MCU is like witnessing the evolution of the franchise itself.

It seems that Denzel Washington might be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to his statements suggesting he’s involved with “Black Panther 3.

It’s hard to fathom the unique path that the Black Panther character has traversed within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In Captain America: Civil War, we were introduced to T’Challa, the prince of the fictitious African nation Wakanda, who possesses the mineral vibranium, making their country the most technologically advanced in the world. The 2017 Black Panther solo film, where T’Challa became the titular hero, was not only one of Marvel’s biggest box office successes but also earned an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.

Chadwick Boseman once again embodied his character in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” with plans for Black Panther to lead the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Unfortunately, this journey came to a tragic end in August of 2020 as Boseman, at just 43 years old, passed away from cancer.

2022’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” significantly shifted the narrative as T’Challa perished, with his sister Shuri taking over as the Black Panther. Since then, there has been some silence regarding the franchise, but whispers of a third film persist.

It seems like something significant is underway, as it involves one of the most prominent figures in Hollywood, and this was confirmed by Denzel Washington during an interview with Australia’s Today show. He shared that Ryan Coogler is planning a role for him in an upcoming Black Panther movie, which he discussed while promoting his part in Gladiator II.

For me it’s about the filmmakers. Especially at this point in my career, I am only interested in working with the best. I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make. It’s probably not that many. I want to do things I haven’t done.

Following his mentions of several future ventures such as portraying Hannibal and appearing in a Broadway play of Othello, Washington added offhandedly, “And afterwards, Ryan Coogler is crafting a role for me in the upcoming ‘Black Panther’ film.

Seeing Washington join the MCU is a huge move, and fans are wondering who he’d be playing.

Who could Denzel Washington play in Black Panther 3?

Incorporating Denzel Washington into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) would significantly enhance its quality. Few actors command as much respect and affection as this two-time Academy Award winner, who has an impressive collection of successful films to his name. Washington seldom appears in roles for mere compensation and consistently delivers top-notch performances, even if the film itself is less than stellar. Bringing such talent into the MCU would be a welcome addition.

Denzel Washington’s decision to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe stems from his enjoyment of the experience. Additionally, he has long admired Chadwick Boseman, who considered Washington one of his role models. Notably, when Washington received the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2019, Boseman was among the presenters, expressing heartfelt gratitude towards Washington for opening paths for actors like himself and emphasizing that “there is no Black Panther without Denzel Washington.

When it comes to me and my potential character in Black Panther 3, I’m guessing Ryan Coogler might craft a unique role just for me. I could see myself as an elder figure in Wakanda, or perhaps even the spiritual presence of a former king, offering guidance and wisdom.

Among popular picks, there’s the Blue Marvel, a character who first appeared in 2008. Adam Brashear acquired his superpowers in the 1960s and took on the role of a masked hero well before the emergence of characters like Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and others. Yet, when it was revealed that this exceptionally powerful hero was African American, public opposition forced Brashear to leave Earth. He later reappeared to join forces with the Avengers.

The role seems tailor-made for Washington, exuding seriousness and Brashear harboring resentment over his past experiences yet open to collaboration with other heroes. Although Washington is famed for portraying noble characters, it could be intriguing to observe him as a potential antagonist or, at minimum, someone with ambiguous traits instead.

Currently, the development of the script for the upcoming movie continues, but there’s no news yet regarding its release date. However, the potential inclusion of Washington in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is definitely a major boost that makes thinking about Black Panther 3 even more enticing.
