Denzel Washington continues remarkable unwanted streak at the BAFTAs

As a fervent admirer, I was eagerly awaiting the 2025 BAFTA Film nominations, but sadly, it seems that the trend continues to be less than favorable for the esteemed Denzel Washington.

In critiques for the movie Gladiator II, the actor’s portrayal was often praised as a standout aspect of the film. Critics have even speculated that his performance could earn him a nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category at the Oscars. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it onto the BAFTA shortlist.

It’s worth noting that Washington has never received a BAFTA nomination, despite having a successful career since the 1980s and earning two Oscars, three Golden Globes, and nominations at both the Emmys and the Grammies – an impressive feat indeed.

As a gaming aficionado, I’ve got to give it up to some outstanding performances that didn’t make the cut this year. Daniel Craig in “Queer”, Zendaya in “Challengers”, and Margaret Qualley in “The Substance” – these actors truly delivered some unforgettable performances that deserve recognition.

In the rankings, Conclave tops with twelve nominations, Emilia Pérez is nominated for eleven awards, The Brutalist receives nine nominations, while Anora, Dune: Part Two, and Wicked each have seven nominations.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been recognized for my chilling portrayal in the horror flick “Heretic,” marking my fourth nod overall. On the other hand, Saoirse Ronan has once again proven her exceptional talent with her role in “The Outrun,” earning her a staggering seventh BAFTA nomination at just 30! What an achievement!

Marianne Jean-Baptiste received a nomination for the movie “Hard Truths,” marking her first BAFTA recognition since 1997.

However, it was announced that Washington still has an opportunity to receive another BAFTA award. This is because in November, they confirmed that there will be two additional films in the The Equalizer series, even though earlier suggestions indicated that the third movie might have been the last one.

“I told them I would do another Equalizer, and we’re doing four and five,” he told Esquire.

As a fellow enthusiast, I can’t help but echo the joy I see around – there’s a growing appreciation for those magnificent Equalizers out there. For me, it’s all about versatility. On some days, I find myself thinking, “one’s perfect for my needs, another one’s ideal for someone else.

For instance, consider “Othello”: it’s being staged on Broadway and will also become a movie, which resonates with me. However, I’ve found that the Equalizer films also appeal to me, as they are designed with the audience in mind.

The BAFTA Film Awards by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts are scheduled for this coming Sunday, specifically on February 16th. You can catch it live on BBC One or stream it later on iPlayer.
