Denise Welch has recalled the time she stormed off set after a furious stand-off with a director.
The 67-year-old Loose Women host shared that she’s only walked off the show set twice, and both times it was because she felt spoken down to.
Denise recently shared on the Loose Women podcast that the surprising incident caught everyone on set off guard, emphasizing she doesn’t behave like a demanding diva.
Denise recalled being on a TV set about 30 years ago. They had rehearsed the scene around 20 times before filming.
That shot was seriously challenging! It needed a piece of sugar glass to break perfectly, and something had to come out of it when it did. I’m prepared to rehearse endlessly – honestly, I’ll rehearse until I get it right, over and over again. And then, finally, they told me I was ready and to start filming!
I quickly interrupted and asked if we could please have just one rehearsal with the actors.

The director reassured them, saying, “Don’t worry about it. We’ll make sure you look good.”
Denise, still very angry, continued, saying she told them, “Fine, I’m going to go to my dressing room and won’t come out until someone apologizes.”
‘That patronising is very different to having a little bit of banter. Do you know what I mean?”.
Denise said the news that she’d abruptly left the set quickly spread among the cast and crew, but she stood by her decision and had no regrets.
When you consistently act professionally and avoid being demanding, it makes a bigger impact when something unexpected or difficult occurs.
Grace asked if Denise’s boss apologised, but it was half hearted.
She explained that the people she was referring to had been watching on the monitors, so they understood which direction it went.
The two were responding to a fan’s question about dealing with a challenging boss when they don’t have access to HR. Denise suggested reaching out to Citizens Advice for help.

Loose Women will be on television for only 30 weeks of the year now, instead of the usual 52, as ITV looks to reduce spending.
Because more people are watching shows through streaming services, ITV has had to make tough choices to stay in business and continue producing popular UK shows.
Good Morning Britain and Lorraine are also facing cuts at the broadcaster, along with other programs.
Good Morning Britain is extending its runtime by thirty minutes, which means Lorraine will now be a half-hour show instead of an hour.
Similar to Loose Women, Lorraine will now only be broadcast for 30 weeks of the year. When it’s off the air, Good Morning Britain will be extended to fill the slot, running from 6am to 10am.
Kevin Lygo, who heads up ITV’s entertainment programming, emphasized that daytime television is a key part of their overall output.
The Managing Director explained that the changes to scheduling and production will let them keep delivering the news, discussions, and debates viewers enjoy, with the familiar presenters they rely on. These changes will also create savings, allowing them to invest in other types of programming.
These changes will help us combine our news teams and increase the amount of national, international, and local news we produce. This is especially important now, as viewers rely on us for trustworthy and impartial news more than ever before, and we’re committed to continuing our long tradition of quality journalism.
