Denise Crosby was in talks to appear in Star Trek: Legacy
As a long-time Star Trek enthusiast who’s seen more than my fair share of interstellar shenanigans, I must say that the prospect of Star Trek: Legacy with Denise Crosby back as Sela is an intriguing one. Don’t get me wrong; I appreciate a good twist as much as the next Trekkie, but the idea of Sela turning into a full-blown villain seems a bit overplayed for my taste.
As a gaming enthusiast, I want to share that there’s been no official word yet on Star Trek: Legacy, as it hasn’t been given the go-ahead. Whether it’s still in the pipeline remains uncertain. However, at a recent Tampa Bay Comic Convention, Denise Crosby hinted at the series and seemed quite intrigued by Terry Matalas’ vision for her character.
As Crosby shared, she had a discussion with Matalas, who is responsible for running Star Trek: Picard. During their talk, Matalas expressed his desire for a storyline featuring Sela. Later, she praised Matalas’ achievements within the franchise and pondered why he hasn’t been entrusted with leading the series given his evident ability to manage a Star Trek production.
There’s no denying that Matalas made a smashing success out of season three of Star Trek: Picard, and he’d likely do the same for Star Trek: Legacy. That said, the Sela storyline was, for me, a bit over the top and was just a way to bring Crosby back into the franchise, especially since it was her idea. I may be on my own with this, but the entire plot was a bit far-fetched. On top of that, Crosby just didn’t come across as a believable villian. Again, this is just my opinion, and I’m sure there are plenty of fans who would disagree with me.
In the first season of the show, Picard interacted with the Romulans, and he also had a personal connection with a Romulan named Laris. Introducing another Romulan character from Star Trek: The Next Generation who was still an adversary might feel excessive, given that there’s no certainty that Patrick Stewart will reprise his role as Admiral Picard again.
If Matalas had planned to reintroduce Crosby in Picard’s final season, he could have done so because many original characters made a comeback. However, the narrative didn’t provide a suitable role for her character. Given all the discussions about Legacy and actors desiring the series, it appears that introducing Sela (Crosby) might unnecessarily force Crosby into a tale that has already been fully explored.
