Demonstrator interrupts Fashion Awards 2025 as animal rights activist runs on to red carpet to hold up a PETA sign while Wallis Day poses for photos

A protester disrupted the Fashion Awards 2025 on Monday by running onto the red carpet with a sign from PETA.

Animal rights activists joined actress Wallis Day as she posed for pictures before the event.

PETA, the international animal rights organization, is urging the fashion industry to eliminate leather from its products.

Signs read: ‘Leather is destroying the planet. Wear your own skin.’

As celebrities posed for photos on the red carpet, security quickly removed the activist.

According to PETA, cows are capable of forming bonds and experiencing grief, and they don’t want to be killed. However, the leather industry often treats them as mere objects, sometimes even skinning or cutting them apart while they are still alive and aware.

The industry also contributes to climate change, pollutes water sources, and damages land.

Designers now have exciting options for vegan leather made from materials like apples, grapes, mushrooms, and pineapples. Choosing leather alternatives helps protect both animals and the environment. Consider going leather-free!

The event started in 1989 as the British Fashion Awards. In 2016, it was renamed to better represent the international range of designers and creatives it celebrates.

The awards show first took place at the famous Royal Albert Hall. Since then, it’s been held at the Natural History Museum four times and the Victoria & Albert Museum three times.

Since 2016, they’ve been holding events at the Royal Albert Hall, and it’s now become a yearly gathering place for major figures in the fashion world.

The awards show has hosted a wide range of iconic figures, from Princess Diana and the Spice Girls to fashion designers like Vivienne Westwood and Karl Lagerfeld, attracting stars from both the fashion world and other areas of public life.

Actor Colman Domingo hosted this year’s ceremony, paying tribute to the awards’ British roots by wearing Burberry on the red carpet.

Widely regarded as a highlight of the fashion year, this event celebrates the biggest stars and freshest new talent in the industry – from well-known designers to rising stars.

As a style enthusiast, I have to say one of the highlights of the evening was watching Cate Blanchett present the British Womenswear Designer of the Year Award to the incredibly talented Sarah Burton. It was a beautiful moment recognizing such creativity!

Sarah, well-known for creating Princess Catherine’s wedding gown in 2011, happily received the award.

Jonathan Anderson, a fashion designer from Northern Ireland, received the top prize at the Designer of the Year awards. This marks his third time winning the honor.

Raye performed both her song “Where Is My Husband!” and a rendition of Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me A River.” The evening also included performances by Tems and the English National Ballet.
