Demi Moore spirals out of control in new trailer for The Substance

As a seasoned gamer and movie enthusiast with a penchant for horror, I can’t help but feel my heart racing at the prospect of “The Substance.” Having traversed countless digital landscapes, I can confidently say that this upcoming body horror masterpiece by Coralie Fargeat seems to be a real-life nightmare waiting to unfold on the silver screen.

As we edge nearer to the theatrical debut of “The Substance“, you might have already guessed it. Yes, the grand unveiling of the official trailer! Today, Mubi has disclosed an exhilarating, spine-tingling trailer for this upcoming horror movie. Don’t watch it yet if you don’t want spoilers, but trust us, you’ll be thrilled with what awaits your eyes.

The Movie, titled “The Substance,” is a forthcoming body horror production from Coralie Fargeat, the gifted French director and screenwriter who brought us the action-thriller “Revenge.” Initially planned for distribution by Universal Pictures, Mubi secured the film before its debut at Cannes.

In this latest release, Demi Moore, who was Emmy-nominated for her acting skills, makes a comeback to the silver screen. It’s been since the musical drama film “Please Baby Please” in 2022 that she last took on a new movie role. But, lucky for fans, they got to witness her performance as Ann Woodward in the TV series “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans” earlier this year.

Moore plays the lead character, Elisabeth Shimmer, a veteran actress who finds herself abruptly out of work due to her boss, Harvey’s sexist and ageist tendencies. Struggling financially, Elisabeth encounters an unforeseen chance for a potential life transformation. This comes in the form of a peculiar drug known as “The Compound,” a substance that temporarily regenerates a younger, improved version of oneself at the cellular level.

There’s got to be a catch, though. Correct! She can only spend one week in her new body while spending the other week in her original body. If she follows this strict rule, everything should be fine, right? It doesn’t seem so based on the thrilling trailer below.

In the movie “Poor Things”, Margaret Qualley takes on the character of Sue, who is a younger and exceptional representation of Elisabeth. Although it might not be immediately clear in the trailer, Qualley plays the person Moore’s character transforms into after consuming an illegal drug. Alongside Moore and Qualley, you’ll find Dennis Quaid as Harvey, Hugo Diego Garcia, Phillip Schurer, Joseph Balderrama, and Robin Greer in the cast.

From what we’ve seen in the trailer, it seems clear that this upcoming body horror film titled “The Substance” will keep you on the edge of your seat. We can hardly wait to watch it! Mubi plans to bring “The Substance” to theaters across the country starting September 20, 2024. Are you planning to catch it?
