Demi Moore reveals comment from famous director on Happy Days set that ‘completely changed’ her life at 14

Demi Moore recently revealed that an impactful conversation she had as a teenager changed her life.

Last week, the 63-year-old actress shared a memorable story at the Kérastase Chronologiste launch event. Speaking on a panel, she recounted a significant experience from early in her career.

She recalled being 14 years old and living in California when she received an invitation to be in the audience for a taping of the TV show Happy Days. She told Sara Foster she was incredibly excited about it.

Moore, known for recently surprising fans with a wig, went on to share a story about the show’s creator, Garry Marshall. Moore admitted he was confused during his time on the show and later discussed it with Marshall, who told him, ‘If you could capture that energy, you’d have something special.’

Marshall’s words stayed with her and redirected her path.

He gave me exactly the focus I needed at that time. I wasn’t necessarily lacking confidence, but I desperately needed a clear direction, and he provided that, allowing me to channel my energy into the career path I ultimately pursued, the Golden Globe winner explained.

Moore told Marshall how much his words affected her years later.

‘I said to him many years later, “You said this thing to me and it completely changed my life.”

He actually had no recollection of the conversation, but that doesn’t matter. What’s important is realizing we never know what impact we might have on others.

‘Don’t ever underestimate the impact you might have by giving of yourself to someone else.’

Marshall died from pneumonia at age 81 in July 2016 after suffering a stroke.

Besides directing episodes of Happy Days, this acclaimed director also helmed the popular films Pretty Woman and The Princess Diaries.

Moore recently went to the Gucci Fall/Winter 2026 show at Milan Fashion Week. She was seen with a bob haircut, leading many fans to believe she had cut her long hair.

She surprised everyone at the Kérastase event by sharing that the hairstyle wasn’t hers naturally, but a wig styled by Dimitris Giannetos.

The actress from Landman described it as an ‘incredible moment,’ explaining that she loved getting to explore a different side of herself through the role.

That same day, Moore declared on Instagram: ‘The long hair is here to stay.’

She showed off her long hair while celebrating the release of a new anti-aging hair serum from the French luxury brand. The ‘Chronologiste Overnight Youth Serum’ is priced at $35 for a 30ml bottle or $65 for a 90ml bottle.

The star told People magazine in January: ‘[Long hair] feels most like me.

I enjoy experimenting with different styles using wigs, but ultimately, I love the feeling of letting my hair down and seeing its full length. It feels incredibly comforting and natural, like returning to what’s truly me.

Demi Moore is well-known for her role as Lieutenant Jordan O’Neil in the 1997 film G.I. Jane, a drama inspired by the Navy SEALs. For the part, she famously shaved her head while cameras were rolling.

Okay, seriously, hearing her say that? It totally blew my mind! It wasn’t just a little thing, it was like… a moment. She actually said it made her appreciate her hair more! I’ve been saying that for years, and to hear her say it? It just confirmed everything. I’m obsessed, obviously, and that quote? It’s going on a shrine, I swear!
