Demi Moore pitches Now and Then sequel as she reunites with former castmates
As a fan of heartwarming stories about strong women, I found myself deeply moved by the reunion of the cast of “Now and Then”. It was truly a special moment to witness these remarkable actresses come together and share their memories from this iconic film that was created predominantly by women.
As a seasoned lifestyle connoisseur looking back at the vibrant tapestry of my career, I had the immense pleasure of orchestrating an extraordinary reunion during the 2024 Women in Hollywood event hosted by ELLE. I invited my cherished former castmates, Melanie Griffith, Rita Wilson, and Rosie O’Donnell, to grace the stage with their presence and introduce me, an experience that will forever remain etched in my heart.
29 years have passed since two women co-starred in a movie directed by Lesli Linka Glatter, a film with feminist themes that spanned the years 1970 and 1995, written by I. Marlene King, who is known for creating Pretty Little Liars.
This hit movie, which earned approximately $37.5 million, showcased acting talents such as Cloris Leachman, Devon Sawa, Janeane Garofalo, Hank Azaria, Bonnie Hunt, Brendan Fraser, and Demi Moore’s daughter, Rumer Willis.
62-year-old Brat Pack member expressed that ‘Now and Then’ wasn’t merely a movie for him, but rather a thrilling journey, during his speech at the Four Seasons Hotel.
‘That tale was all about friendship, endurance, and journeying through the highs and lows of life together. And now, here we are, 30 years on, still standing shoulder to shoulder. I adore each one of you and am truly grateful.’
Demi added: ‘You see, we’ve delved into our past and there’s even more to explore. That leads me to wonder if perhaps someone is considering a reboot or continuation of the story, something like ‘Now and Then, Yet Again’. Let’s discuss this further once you have some thoughts.’
As a die-hard enthusiast, I can’t help but share my exhilaration when I found out that the extraordinary Samantha Albertson, whose sci-fi works I adore, co-starred with the talented Gaby Hoffmann, who was just 12 years old at the time. What a magical collaboration it must have been!
Melanie shared the role of successful actress Tina ‘Teeny’ Tercell with Thora Birch
Rosie shared the role of obstetrician Roberta Martin with then 15-year-old Christina Ricci.
Rita took on the dual character of pregnant wife Chrissy DeWitt alongside teenage actress Ashleigh Aston Moore (who tragically passed away due to an accidental drug overdose at age 26, back in 2007).
‘We were all honored that she asked us to be a part of that film,’ O’Donnell said onstage.
“In 1995, it was quite unusual to find a movie made, scripted, led behind the camera, and featuring predominantly women. This film was truly a precious gem.
Wilson reflected: “Years ago, Demi made headlines by posing naked, seven months pregnant, on the cover of Vanity Fair. These days, celebrities often wear less on the red carpet compared to her.
‘And now she’s experiencing a renaissance,’ Griffith noted.

The 62-year-old comedian added: ‘A Demi-ssance, if you will.’
Later on, Tom Hanks’ 68-year-old spouse took to Instagram to post a heartfelt collection of photos showcasing the remarkable moments they all experienced as a group.
