Demi Moore Kept Her Iconic Indecent Proposal Dress

The Dark Romance Movie Is Over 30 Years Old

In 1993, Moore, known for her elegant fashion sense, wore a now-famous black gown in the dramatic romance film “Indecent Proposal.” Directed by Adrian Lyne, who is also recognized for his work on “Fatal Attraction” and “Jacob’s Ladder,” this movie tells the story of David and Diana Murphy, a married couple who are propositioned by billionaire John Gage to spend an evening with him in exchange for a substantial amount of money. The cast of “Indecent Proposal” includes Moore, as well as Woody Harrelson, Oliver Platt, Billy Bob Thornton, and Robert Redford. After its initial release, the movie didn’t receive favorable reviews, but it went on to gross over $266 million globally.

In a recent interview with People magazine, Moore discussed some of her iconic outfits, such as the black gown from Indecent Proposal. She disclosed that the dress, created by Thierry Mugler, was reproduced when the movie was released. Moore elaborated on how the dress played a significant role in the narrative and thus had to be impactful. Expressing her gratitude, Moore mentioned that she still has the dress, but eventually donated it to Planet Hollywood, adding that “it would stand the test of time.” Here are Moore’s remarks below:

Moore’s Remarks:
– “I kept the dress, but eventually I sent it to Planet Hollywood because I thought, ‘It would stand the test of time.'”
– “It became an important part of the story, so it had to make a statement.

This is the highly recognizable Thierry Mugler gown, which I learned later became the most imitated dress of the year. To be honest, I wasn’t aware of it at the time. However, its significance in the narrative was undeniable. It’s one of those moments where something catches your eye, knowing it’s beyond your reach financially.

The question about whether everything has a price is raised here, which is central to the film’s plot. The dress was essential for the story, needed to be exceptional and unforgettable, and finding this one was truly remarkable. I absolutely adore this dress.

I’ve held onto this dress and currently, I’m trying to get it back as I had given it to Planet Hollywood at some point for their memorabilia collection. I’m not sure where I might wear it, but I definitely would, because it’s something I believe has lasting appeal – it could stand the test of time, just like good design often does.

Our Take On The Indecent Proposal Dress

It Serves A Purpose In The Movie

At the start of the film, Moore’s character, Diana, comes across an expensive black dress in a store within a casino. Despite not being able to afford it, she fantasizes about owning it. This is where she first encounters John, who propositions her by offering to buy the dress and flirting with her. As Moore put it, this item becomes crucial in “Indecent Proposal” since Diana initially rejects John, but he later presents both Diana and David with an extravagant suite, along with the dress. This scene implies that wealth might have the power to influence people and that certain things can be purchased.
