Lovato, who wed artist and songwriter Jordan ‘Jutes’ Lutes in May, has come around full circle.
Demi Lovato shared that creating the 2024 documentary Child Star was a healing process. The film explores the challenges of growing up in the spotlight and navigating the entertainment industry as a young performer.

The 33-year-old pop star admits that it proved to be a really valuable experience for her.
Demi Lovato recently shared with Who What Wear that working on the ‘Child Star’ documentary was a positive experience, but also a deeply healing one. They hope the project will inspire positive change across the country, both for themselves and for others.
The popular singer then began advocating for the rights of child actors and performers in the United States.
Lovato explained that she directly urged California Governor Gavin Newsom to sign a particular bill. She said she ‘put him on the spot’ about it. The next day, while driving home, she received a call from the governor who told her he would sign it.
Lovato previously admitted that she found making the documentary to be a therapeutic experience.
The singer, who was on the show Barney & Friends from 2002 to 2004, recently told People magazine that revisiting her childhood experiences was a very positive and therapeutic process. She said acknowledging her true feelings as a child was especially helpful.
Honestly, looking back and really seeing how tough things were for me as a kid… it felt like finally giving that little me a hug. Like, I was letting her know it’s okay that things weren’t perfect, and I was making room for her feelings – the ones she didn’t even get to fully experience back then because, well, childhood just wasn’t what it should’ve been.

Lovato spoke to the likes of Drew Barrymore, Kenan Thompson and Raven-Symone for Child Star.
The singer shared that she loves connecting with people who understand what she’s been through, because they’ve faced similar challenges.
Sharing our experiences really helped us feel connected and less isolated, even though we often felt alone in what we were going through. It fostered a strong sense of community.
Talking with the people featured in the film was truly helpful and emotionally beneficial for me.
