Shepherd, whose genuine name is Terry Musa, is among the oldest and most cutting-edge members within Delta Force. A key figure on any team, his unique talent, known as Sonic Paralysis, proves to be invaluable. Additionally, his other secondary skills contribute significantly to his tactical worth.

Shepherd was the initial member of the Engineer class within Delta Force to become accessible. Shepherd is equipped with numerous features and abilities that left me astounded when I first used him, primarily his tactical skills and effectiveness.

You can activate his skills by clicking the fire button or pressing the designated ‘special ability’ key. Interestingly, his passive skill enhances his primary one quite effectively. In terms of unique abilities, he boasts a total of four, making him an indispensable asset in combat scenarios.
The Shepherd’s unique ability, known as Sonic Defense, enables him to create counter-phased soundwaves using a handheld device. This shields him from the harmful effects of explosion blasts, such as those caused by launchers or grenades.
Active Ability: Sonic Paralysis
The principal capability, often referred to as the key ability, goes by the name of “Sonic Paralysis”. This is the tactical equipment belonging to Shepherd. When activated, Shepherd releases a “Sonic Drone” that subdues enemies within a 30-meter vicinity, decreasing their rate of fire.

This tool serves two purposes:
1. It can disable enemy sonic devices and disrupt other surveillance equipment.
2. When you press the button, it releases an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and delivers a single powerful paralysis. If you hold down the button, it keeps the UAV stationary while delivering four instances of paralysis over approximately 16 seconds.
As a tech enthusiast, I’m thrilled about this drone’s unique feature: it sports a sonic generator mounted at its tail, capable of producing anti-phase sound waves. These soundwaves are designed to disrupt and weaken potential threats, effectively reducing enemy firepower. Remarkably, from my control panel fitted snugly on my arm, I can command both the drone and the trap with ease, thanks to the full-display interface. It’s like having a trusty sidekick in the heat of battle!
Gadgets and Weapons
When discussing explosives, allow me to present a powerful option: the GE2 Frag Grenade. This tool proves highly useful for Shepherd. From its title, you might surmise it’s a defensive grenade, and indeed, it can inflict substantial damage on ballistic vests regardless of their strength, while also causing significant impact to unprotected limbs.
This device operates in two modes:
1. To execute a swift toss, simply press the firing button.
2. Alternatively, you can hold down the button to prepare it (prime), then let go to launch a well-cooked grenade.
Among all the tools at Shepherd’s disposal, I find the Sonic Trap to be the most practical. It serves as an effective defense mechanism against enemies in a specific area. In my opinion, this gadget is indispensable due to its functionality. It adheres to hard surfaces after deployment, emitting a powerful sonic wave that deters any potential threats.

The Sonic Trap activates on its own when foes get within a 4-meter radius, causing harm and slowing them down in a broader area. This creates an advantage for your Assault class operators to deliver heavy blows against the weakened enemies. Keep in mind that if you move too far from it and breach the 59-meter boundary, it might self-destruct on its own.
The trap can’t harm the same target twice in a row because it has a built-in sensor that sends soundwaves to spot nearby threats. If it identifies an enemy within its proximity, it detonates, inflicting damage, subduing foes, and emitting a warning signal. Furthermore, if it senses an explosion nearby, it releases counteracting soundwaves to lessen the impact of the blast.
Delta Force Shepherd Gameplay Tips
Mastering the Sonic Paralysis
- Sonic Trap allows Shepherd to defend an area well: If you place the Sonic Trap near any choke point or sensitive area, it can effectively keep enemies away for a limited period before reinforcements arrive. It can also work like a motion detector, which will alert Shepherd when a team enters its vicinity.
- The Sonic Paralysis drones keep your team safe from explosions: Since its main objective is nullifying the grenades and preventing other operators from using gadgets or using other active abilities, you can expect that your team will remain safe from heavy explosions while this ability is active.
Mistakes to Avoid with Shepherd
- Do not use Shepherd as a Fragger: Remember that Shepherd is not an aggressive Entry Fragger like other assault class operators. He thrives in holding territory or disrupting enemies. If you use him on the frontline, it may cause a massive imbalance.
- Do not place Sonic Traps in open areas: Sonic Traps can play a crucial role in matches as they are low-risk, high-reward items. Try to use those wisely and place them only in choke points and hard angles. Otherwise, your enemies won’t have much trouble deactivating those traps.
Best Team Compositions with Shepherd
To maximize Shepherd’s effectiveness on the battlefield, consider the following team compositions:
- Toxik: Toxik goes pretty well with Shepherd as her active healing abilities help Shepherd to constantly halt the enemies’ progressions abruptly. The frontliners also receive the much-needed extra advantage, and they attack fearlessly. When Toxik’s abilities are paired with Shepherd’s sonic area control, your whole team becomes a coordinated and powerful force to reckon with.
- Stinger: Stinger complements Shepherd by maintaining overall team health and covering while Shepherd locks down choke points with his sonic gadgets. This duo creates a great frontline with decent sustainability.
