Deliver Me From Nowhere Sequel Teased By Director Scott Cooper

Scott Cooper, the director of the Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere, has hinted at plans for a sequel and how it might happen. The film stars Jeremy Allen White as the iconic singer-songwriter, focusing on his life, challenges, and triumphs during the making of his sixth album, Nebraska. The movie has received generally mixed to positive reviews.

Despite the challenges, Cooper—who also wrote the film—is still thinking about making a sequel to Deliver Me From Nowhere. He told Variety at AFI Fest that Bruce Springsteen’s positive reaction to the movie has inspired him to explore other stories from Springsteen’s life that could be turned into films.

If filmmakers can create multiple movies about The Beatles, they could easily do the same for Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen’s life has many compelling stories that would translate well to the big screen.

Bruce and I have talked about this, and I believe he genuinely enjoyed making the film. He seemed very comfortable with revisiting a difficult time in his life, and from what I gather, he’s open to doing similar projects in the future. Of course, he’d be the best person to confirm that.

Cooper likened the potential for Bruce Springsteen biopics to a planned series of four films about The Beatles, each focusing on a different member’s perspective of the band’s history. This highlights the wealth of stories from Springsteen’s life that could be adapted for the cinema.

Bruce Springsteen’s life story has enough material for several films, not just Deliver Me From Nowhere. Having worked for decades and still actively performing, he has countless moments that could be adapted for the screen. Unlike some other music biopics like Elvis or Bohemian Rhapsody, Springsteen’s story doesn’t feel limited to a single era, leaving room for future films about different parts of his life.

The story in Deliver Me From Nowhere could easily be continued in a sequel. Many viewers have praised Jeremy Allen White’s performance as the musician, so revisiting the character later in his life is one possibility. However, there are currently no confirmed plans for a follow-up.

Even if a follow-up movie is made, getting the actor from The Bear back would be only one piece of the puzzle. Bruce Springsteen has released 21 studio albums, most recently Only the Strong Survive in 2022. A clever approach for any sequels could be to focus on a specific album, similar to how Deliver Me From Nowhere centered around Nebraska, allowing for a deeper look into his life and work.

Whether there will be a sequel to Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere depends on how well the film does in theaters. Because it cost $55 million to make, it needs to perform reasonably well at the box office for a follow-up movie to be approved. We’ll find out this weekend if another film is likely.
