As someone who champions body positivity, I’m loving Kate Beckinsale‘s recent posts! She’s confidently rocking bikinis and mini skirts on Instagram, and it’s fantastic to see her shutting down any negativity about her figure. It’s a powerful message – she’s owning her look and inspiring others to do the same, and honestly, that’s always a good thing!
The 52-year-old actress, who recently shared the heartbreaking news of losing her mother in 2025 and her stepfather the year before – events she discussed while visibly emotional – has spoken again about experiencing intense grief. Her significant weight loss was also linked to these losses.
Kate has spoken openly about the intense grief she felt after her mother, Judy Loe, passed away in July 2025 at the age of 78 following a long illness with cancer. She also mourned the loss of her step-father, Roy Battersby, who died in January 2024 at 87.
She shared photos of herself in form-fitting clothes, along with a heartfelt message about coping with loss. She encouraged anyone grieving to ‘wear whatever makes you feel comfortable’.
Kate discovered something interesting today: all the Guatis she’s been observing are female. She jokingly apologized to the one she’d mistakenly referred to as ‘Philip’ for three days, explaining she hadn’t realized it was a female.
It’s surprising to learn that women are the most competitive players in polo. While men enjoy the game, women are fiercely determined to win. Interestingly, watching the show ‘Four in a Bed’ and giving horses nose kisses can also be unexpectedly helpful when dealing with difficult early grief.

She explained that when you’re going through a difficult time, support often comes from unexpected places. It’s usually those who have experienced significant hardship themselves – loss, trauma, abuse, or betrayal – who truly understand and share your pain. She found this incredibly touching and humbling.
There’s no right or wrong way to grieve, and your loss is as painful as any other. Don’t let anyone tell you your grief isn’t valid or compare it to someone else’s – everyone experiences loss differently, and your feelings are important.
Dealing with grief is incredibly difficult, and it’s something you shouldn’t go through by yourself. Having someone – even for a short time – to simply be present with you in your sadness can make a huge difference. Sometimes that support comes from unexpected people, and often, it comes from animals, for which we should be grateful.
Kate continued, encouraging everyone to express themselves through fashion, no matter how unconventional. She said to wear whatever makes you happy – whether it’s something extravagant like a hat with birds, or something comfortable like stained sweatpants – and to enjoy life because it’s too short to worry about what others think. Basically, do what brings you joy and have fun with your style.
From a young age, I’ve found comfort and strength in the works of poets and artists like Emily Dickinson, Mary Oliver, David Bowie, Verlaine, Rimbaud, Brian Patten, Sylvia Plath, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, C.S. Lewis, Simon & Garfunkel, Adrian Mitchell, Anna Akhmatova, and many others. I’m grateful for their impact on my life.
Before introducing her 26-year-old daughter, Lily Mo Sheen (whom she shares with Michael Sheen), she said, ‘Finally, my daughter is the most beautiful girl in the world.’
Kate shared a heartbreaking video last week explaining that the death of her mother and stepfather the previous year caused her health to severely decline.
As someone who’s been through tough times, I can really relate to Kate’s vulnerability. Seeing her get emotional, wiping away tears, it hit home. She shared that 2025 was an incredibly difficult year for her, made even harder by the fact that it was the last year she had with her amazing mother. It’s a deeply personal loss, and it’s okay to feel all the feelings that come with it.

I’m also finding it difficult to part with it. I just wanted to mention that my stepfather passed away a couple of years ago.
When I was five years old, my mother was hospitalized, and I was left to witness my father’s passing all alone.
I experienced the loss of my father at a young age when he died of a massive heart attack at 31. Later, I also witnessed the death of my stepfather, and then the slow decline and eventual passing of my mother.
Kate explained honestly that losing weight had significantly reduced her appetite, and she’d experienced a lot of discomfort during the process.
I’m not sure if I feel guilty for surviving, because it began after my stepfather passed away. It’s different than anorexia, which involves actively restricting food and seems like a test of willpower.

‘It’s like your body has closed down. I think it’s shock and trauma.
Honestly, seeing the people you love suffer and die – especially when it’s graphic or violent – just takes your appetite away.
Kate shared on Instagram that her mother passed away in her arms on July 15th, after a long and difficult illness. She said she’s overwhelmed with grief.
Kate was joined by her daughter, Lily, at her father’s funeral at Chiswick House. In a photo Kate shared, Lily was seen lovingly hugging her dad.
Kate and Michael were a couple from the mid-1990s to 2003.
Kate shared in her caption that she continues to feel shocked and deeply saddened by the loss, and poignantly revealed she sometimes instinctively reaches for her phone to call her, only to remember she won’t get a response.
Kate mentioned her mother specifically didn’t want a traditional black-clad funeral, and instead requested a celebration of her life.
