As a seasoned gamer and Star Wars enthusiast with a lifetime of watching Rebellions rise and Empires fall, I can’t help but feel a thrill running down my spine at the prospect of Dedra Meero squaring off against Director Krennic in the upcoming Season 2 of Andor.
This month is all about Andor’s Christmas! Empire Magazine has unveiled their November cover, offering a sneak peek at Ben Mendelsohn’s character, Director Krennic, in season 2. Additionally, we’re gathering more insights into some of the intriguing character dynamics.
In a sneak peek at an interview, Mendelsohn hinted that character Krennic is heading towards conflict with Dedra Meero, portrayed by Denise Gough. “Dedra against Krennic? I’d say it’s not quite fair,” says Mendelsohn, implying that they are all subordinates to Krennic.
Although the quote presents Krennic’s perspective, we recall from Season 1 that Dedra was incredibly ambitious and didn’t tolerate disrespect, even challenging her superiors when necessary. Given her character traits, it seems unlikely that she would let Krennic get away with anything. In fact, based on what we’ve learned about Krennic in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and books like “Thrawn: Treason,” his reckless behavior may not sit well with Dedra at all.
It’s clear that Krennic isn’t one to tolerate smart remarks from anyone, let alone Dedra. We already know he’s ruthless, as evident by his betrayal of his long-time friend Galen Erso. Krennic is indeed petty and self-centered. If Dedra dares to confront him in any manner, Krennic will not be pleased, particularly if she begins investigating Project Stardust, a project that holds great importance for Krennic.
It seems likely that as Dedra’s influence grows in Season 2, she may encounter challenges from the Imperial elites above her. While Major Partagaz supported her throughout Season 1, it remains to be seen whether this alliance will persist. If Dedra were to go against him, there could be potential for Krennic to exploit their disagreement. Mendelsohn hints at a collaborative relationship between them, but he also suggests that the Empire, being an authoritarian entity, may not tolerate dissenting views, implying possible discord.
The Empire appears to be uniting to confront the growing Rebellion, yet it’s clear they aren’t fond of this situation. It never occurred to me that Dedra would find herself on a collision course with Director Krennic. I can only hope that we get to witness Krennic trying to explain something to her, so I can enjoy Denise Gough’s superbly acted disdain.
Season 2 of Andor can’t come soon enough. It debuts on Disney+ on April 22, 2025.
