‘Death Stranding’ TV Series Gets Official Title & Unexpected Streaming Home

Hideo Kojima, the creator of the popular video game Death Stranding (also known for Metal Gear Solid), has announced an animated series based on his game. Titled Death Stranding Isolations for now, the series will surprisingly debut on Disney+ in 2027. Kojima revealed the news at an event held at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort this month.

Inspired by the popular 2019 game Death Stranding, the upcoming title Death Stranding Isolations will feature a brand new story and characters. Kojima Productions says the game will focus on a new group including an elderly man seeking redemption, a female warrior attempting to reignite conflict, a boy driven by resentment, and a girl who finds peace in solitude.

Across North America, while Sam Bridges journeys to reconnect a fractured America, others struggle with loneliness and finding their place. As the world faces extinction, their stories intertwine, marking the start of a new chapter in the Death Stranding saga.

Hideo Kojima will be an executive producer on the show, and Takayuki Sano (known for his work on Attack on Titan and Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods) will direct. The actors involved haven’t been revealed yet.

The incredibly popular sci-fi game Death Stranding is expanding into both television and film. A live-action movie is currently being made by A24, with Michael Sarnoski (known for A Quiet Place: Day One) directing. Sarnoski told IGN in September that, similar to the animated series, the film will take place within the Death Stranding universe but tell a completely original story.

For this project, our goal is to truly capture the essence and core themes of the game while telling a fresh story with new characters. We want to explore the expansive world and its intricate details, doing justice to both the big picture and the small, personal moments.

He explained that the movie needed to appeal to both newcomers and longtime fans of the game. It had to be easy enough for people unfamiliar with the franchise to enjoy, but still offer enough depth and excitement to satisfy dedicated players.

Ultimately, the aim is to create a story that feels genuinely human and celebrates everything we appreciate, while also being compelling and independent enough to stand out on its own.

Earlier this year, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach came out on PlayStation 5. Hideo Kojima has said, according to IGN, that he doesn’t currently have plans to make more games set in the Death Stranding world. However, he’s already developed the basic idea for a third game, should the chance come up.
