Death in Paradise’s Shantol Jackson reveals co-star’s affectionate nickname

Actress Shantol Jackson, known for her role on “Death in Paradise”, shared that the cast endearingly calls their longtime colleague Don Warrington by a special pet name.

Tonight, episode two of season 14 of the popular BBC drama airs, and before it goes live, you’ll see Jackson on “The One Show”. He’s giving a sneak peek of what viewers will encounter in the upcoming episode.

Discussing their lively conversations while shooting, the actress portraying Detective Sergeant Naomi Thomas shared that Warrington is known by another name behind the scenes.

“He is ‘the Don’,” she says. “That’s actually what we call him.”

In Season 14, a fresh detective assumes duty on the island of Sainte-Marie, stepping into the shoes previously filled by Detective Inspector Neville Parker, portrayed by Ralf Little, who departed at the end of the previous season.

Previously known EastEnders actor Don Gilet portrays Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson, a character debuted in the series during its 2024 Christmas Special episode.

Jackson then shared the advice Warrington gave to Gilet ahead of taking over the reins.

Don [Warrington] had a captivating presence and he used to say things like, “They might not take to you at first, but give them time, they’ll eventually grow fond of you, but initially, they won’t care for you,” she reminisced to host Alex Jones on The One Show.

She mentioned that she appreciates her talks with Don [Warrington], as he is straightforward and truthful, which she finds enjoyable.

Talking about Gilbert’s latest character, Jackson playfully pointed out DI Wilson’s initial reluctance to fully embrace the island lifestyle.

She states, “He’s not willing to be patient and tries to avoid adjusting to the island and the local police force.

Initially, our connection is somewhat unstable, but we recognize the larger context. We require a Decision Implementer (DI), and this individual has proven abilities and executes tasks effectively. Consequently, we’re doing our utmost to smooth out any wrinkles and ensure a successful partnership.

Viewers won’t have to hold out much longer as they can catch another installment of the freshly debuted series DI, airing at 9 pm this very evening (February 7th) on BBC One.

Death in Paradise and its spin-off, Beyond Paradise, both air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.
