Death in Paradise star shares how his daughter inspired new project

As a fan who has been captivated by Ben Miller’s work in Death in Paradise and Professor T, I must say that his latest endeavor, Robin Hood Aged 10 3/4, is nothing short of inspiring. His life experience as a father shines through the pages, particularly in the creation of the book’s protagonist, Charlie.

In a recent disclosure, actor Ben Miller, known for his role on “Death in Paradise,” shared that his daughter served as the inspiration behind the main character in his latest book titled “Robin Hood Aged 10 3/4.

In an exclusive chat with Digital Spy, the initial detective from “Death in Paradise” shared insights on how characters from real life served as inspiration for the book’s main character.

He shared with us that his writings often feature aspects of his personal life, and as a result, his daughter Lana is extensively portrayed as the main character.

Miller’s narrative revolves around a young lady called Charlie, transitioning to a fresh educational institution, with anxiety over belonging following her previous encounters with bullying.

In a challenging turn of events, Charlie’s self-assurance is put to the test as a magical door in the library propels her into an exciting realm reminiscent of Robin Hood. Here, every character undergoes a transformation – with Charlie herself stepping into the shoes of the book’s titular figure.

According to Miller, his primary character is someone with immense possibilities. However, she lacks self-confidence, especially at first.

“The story is about her coming to believe in herself.”

Miller mentioned that observing his daughter play with her brother frequently involved roles like outlaws or soldiers or princesses, which in turn influenced the departure from the conventional male portrayal of Robin Hood.

In their perspective, these are merely games without much consideration for the characters’ genders within the narrative.

Robin being depicted as female seemed fitting to Miller, reflecting how children often play, as he also mused, “What if Robin Hood was a girl?” It added a fun and refreshing twist to the classic character.

Besides playing Professor T, the actor confessed that his deep-seated love for the classic tale was a driving force behind his role in “Robin Hood: Aged 10 and 3/4”.

As a child, Robin Hood was a favorite tale of mine. There’s something about it that still captivates me – the notion of living freely and adventurously in the woods, bonding with friends.

“Drinking ale and making merry in the middle of a forest always sounded rather attractive.

It seems quite some time has passed since we last saw a movie or TV show featuring Robin Hood. This thought sparked the idea that it might be an ideal opportunity for both adults and children to revisit this classic tale once more.

Miller is set to reappear on our screens, portraying the character Jasper Tempest, in the fourth season of “Professor T,” expected to premiere next year.

I just wanted to share some exciting news, folks! Back in July, we wrapped up filming for season four of “Professor T”. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen my post saying “It’s a wrap!” That means the cameras have stopped rolling and the episodes are now safely tucked away. A big thank you to our fantastic cast and crew – your hard work and dedication really show in every scene! We can hardly wait to bring this season to you all, so stay tuned for more updates!

Initially, I have two things to attend to. Firstly, I plan to soak in an icy cold bath. Secondly, I am contemplating the idea of playing a detective character who wouldn’t be seen in a wool suit during scorching 30-degree weather.

You can currently stream all episodes of “Death in Paradise” on BBC iPlayer, and all episodes of “Professor T” are available for viewing on ITVX.

The children’s book titled “Robin Hood: 10 3/4” by Ben Miller is now published by Simon & Schuster Children’s Books. You can purchase it from various retailers such as Amazon, bookshop.org, Hive, LoveReading4Kids, Waterstones, and WH Smith.
