As an ardent fan of Don Warrington, it is truly awe-inspiring to witness his remarkable journey from Trinidad to the heights of British acting. Born as Williams but adopting the stage name Warrington after Warrington Road in Newcastle, this man has defied all odds and made an indelible mark on our screens.

On a cheerful note, Don Warrington was seen strolling hand-in-hand with Paula Rabbitt, the communications manager, in London on Wednesday.

72-year-old actor from Death In Paradise, beamed with joy, as he walked alongside his companion Paula, who is employed at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.

It’s believed that Don continues to be wedded to his spouse, Mary Maddocks, with whom he has grown children named Jacob and Archie.

Similar to Don, Mary has achieved notable success in her acting profession, with appearances on popular series such as Coronation Street, Doctor Who, and Midsomer Murders.

Apart from her roles, Mary has additionally served as a theater director on the West End stage and graced the stage in the musical adaptation of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Paula has had a long career in theatre public reations.

Prior to assuming her role, she served as the Head of Marketing and Communications for the West Yorkshire Playhouse. In 2015, she moved on to take up a position at the Royal Theatre Exchange.

In an interview with ArtsProfessional.co.uk, she expressed that the theater, known as The Exchange, is exceptionally distinctive, and whenever she enters its structure, it leaves her utterly amazed.

Paula is active on X/Twitter where her profile picture is a selfie of her and Don together. 

In addition to his television work, Don has also been involved in theater productions, such as playing roles in “Driving Miss Daisy” and a re-staging of “Glengarry Glen Ross” in London, which starred Christian Slater.

He has played Commissioner Selwyn Patterson on Death In Paradise since 2011 

‘The show is a very different beast now to when I first started,’ he previously said.

Each transition, whether it’s a new inspector or a fresh cast member, introduces an unexpected layer to the production. I wouldn’t consider myself as the ‘patriarch’ of the show, for each individual brings their unique essence and collectively we form an integral part of this creative journey together.

Born in Trinidad, Don – originally named Williams – moved to Newcastle at the age of seven, accompanied by his mother and brother. This transition occurred shortly after the passing of his father.

In a conversation with the Daily Mail, he shared that he gradually adapted to his novel lifestyle, particularly following his fascination with American movies and British television series. After witnessing Marlon Brando in ‘On The Waterfront’, he made up his mind to pursue acting as a career.

‘I took Warrington as my stage name from Warrington Road in Newcastle where we lived.’

When he initially relocated to England, the actor remembered adjusting his accent to blend in more easily with the local residents.

In simpler terms, he shared that he and his sibling stood out as they were the only African-American students in their school. To navigate such an environment, he adopted the customs and even developed a passion for football, which is popular in the local Geordie community, thus blending in with them.
