Dean Lewis breaks his silence after ‘parting ways’ with record label as he faces accusations of ‘inappropriate behaviour’ from multiple women

Dean Lewis has spoken out after reports surfaced that he’s left his record label. This follows accusations of misconduct made by several women.

Universal Music Group announced last week that the Australian singer-songwriter is no longer signed with them.

Lewis recently started a tour of the USA and Canada, and during a show in Denver, Colorado on Monday, he opened up to the audience about his personal challenges.

Lewis shared that the past three months have been the most difficult of his life, something he hadn’t previously discussed publicly, according to The Daily Telegraph.

He shared that he spent three weeks in intensive therapy, acknowledging he’d made mistakes but took responsibility for them and learned a great deal.

Lewis premiered a new song, believed to be titled “I Am Getting Well,” with lyrics including: “I break everything that is good, ’cause I cannot see the good inside, trust me if I could I would change the chemicals inside my head.”

Lewis plans to release new music this year as an independent artist, according to his management team, who spoke with Rolling Stone Australia.

The hitmaker is without an official record label at present, after leaving Universal.

A Universal Music Australia representative confirmed to the Sydney Morning Herald on Tuesday that Dean Lewis is no longer under contract with Universal Music Australia or any of its affiliated labels.

It’s unclear why the 38-year-old is leaving Universal, but this news follows accusations of misconduct and the removal of his nominations for ARIA and TikTok awards last November.

According to the Herald Sun, the singer’s management team informed ARIA that he was removing his nomination for the Song of the Year award for his song, ‘With You’.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m following the news that the artist behind ‘Be Alright’ has made the surprising decision to withdraw from both the Australian music industry’s biggest awards night and the TikTok Awards. It seems they’re taking a step back from the spotlight right now, and it’s definitely a talking point!

Lewis is up for the Music Artist of the Year award, which will be presented in Sydney on November 26th.

I’m really disappointed in everything that’s come out about this performer. After several women bravely shared their experiences of feeling uncomfortable with his behavior, I understand why people are upset. It’s been hard to watch, and now he’s pulled out of the award shows. I’m surprised he still hasn’t said anything directly about the accusations or why he’s stepping away – it feels like silence isn’t the right approach right now.

But a spokesperson for the singer explained he was taking time out after being slammed online.

TikTok has agreed to withdraw Dean from consideration for their annual awards, giving him the space to prioritize his health and wellbeing. We made this request and are grateful for their understanding, according to a recent statement.

Lewis’ former label issued a statement amid the allegations at the time.

Universal Music Australia CEO Sean Warner has acknowledged reports about the conduct of Dean Lewis, a musician signed to one of their Australian labels.

He continued: ‘We take these matters very seriously and are currently reviewing the situation.

‘As this is ongoing, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further.’

Lewis publicly addressed the accusations of misconduct made against him by several women in October.

The singer of ‘Waves’ posted a statement on Instagram explaining his perspective after multiple women publicly accused him of making unwanted advances.

‘I want to share some thoughts on the recent posts about me on social media. I understand why people are angry and disappointed after learning embarrassing details of intimate private conversations,’ Dean began.

Regarding my relationships with adults over the last ten years, I want to be clear that everything was consensual and legal.

Those who are opposing me have often said the same thing, and it’s upsetting to hear accusations that I’ve broken the law.

Elaina, a 28-year-old woman who accuses Dean of wrongdoing, recently posted an eight-minute video to TikTok detailing her experience with him. She says she first met the singer in 2019 while working in the entertainment industry.

“He texted me to see if I’d be at his show, and then asked if I was going to ‘dress up for him,’ which I thought was a little odd,” Elaina, who was 23 at the time, started to explain.

She explained she expected some level of intimacy when we were together, but what actually happened made her feel very uncomfortable.

‘It went from zero to 100. I was kind of taken aback.

While we were kissing, I quickly realized I didn’t feel at ease, and the other person wasn’t trying to make me comfortable either.

Elaina continued, explaining that he desperately tried to convince her to agree. She recalled him saying they were simply two friends who enjoyed each other’s company and wanted to have a good time.

It really bothered me when he looked at me and asked if I wanted to make him happy.

Another fan also posted a clip of what she claims is a recording of a phone call with Dean. In the recording, a voice believed to be his says, “You wore that white dress, what the f. Baby, I love looking at you.”

Another fan, known only as ‘Eliza’, says she first met Lewis when she was 19. According to Eliza, Lewis’s team found her at a concert and invited her backstage.

Following the meeting, Eliza shared with The Daily Telegraph that the pop star had overwhelmed her with affection, a tactic she described as ‘love bombing.’ She also revealed he referred to her as ‘daddy’ in their messages.

She described a period of intense communication, saying, ‘It felt like constant texting and overwhelming affection at the time.’

‘In my delusional world I thought like I’m the one.’

The Dean acknowledged he had flirted with adult women on occasion, but emphasized he never intended to make anyone feel uneasy.

I’ve always enjoyed playful interactions with women, both younger and older, whether I’m meeting them in person, chatting online, or texting. Sometimes, those interactions have led to intimate moments that I believed were just between us.

I’m truly sorry to everyone I’ve hurt. I also deeply apologize to my family and fans for letting them down.

Dean finished by saying he would be taking steps to ensure this behaviour was never repeated.

He explained that he’s starting intensive therapy to improve his decision-making and completely change how he handles dating and relationships.

‘In time I hope to re-earn the trust of those I’ve hurt.’

It is not being suggested that any of the behaviour Dean allegedly engaged in was illegal.

The singer shot to fame in 2016 with his hit Waves.

He continued his winning streak with the 2019 hit “Be Alright,” which topped the Australian ARIA charts for two weeks.
