Critic Kevin Maher stated that David Corenswet performs satisfactorily in his role as the latest Steelman from Hollywood. However, according to Maher, director James Gunn transformed the ninth cinematic appearance of this character into a difficult-to-digest sludge.

Maher made another jibe at the filmmaker, commenting: ‘Gunn seems to tackle the nerd community’s most revered franchise as if he’s an excited forgetful person who has overlooked the dramatic rise and decline of multiple Marvel superhero films and remains fixated in the early 2010s era instead.’

The Guardian echoed those sentiments, also giving the film two stars and dubbing it a ‘dim reboot.’

In simpler terms, critic Peter Bradshaw stated that the character “Man of Steel,” portrayed by David Corenswet with a rigid and emotionless demeanor, experiences a boring self-doubt crisis in Gunn’s messy and purposeless reboot of the franchise.
