Deal Or No Deal host Grant Denyer goes rogue as he reveals what producers don’t want you to know about the game show: ‘I’ve never had that on any other television series’

Grant Denyer shared an intriguing detail about Deal or No Deal that isn’t visible on your television screen.

On Monday, the Gold Logie award recipient had a chat with the From The Newsroom podcast, discussing the shift in the Channel 10 show’s broadcast to 7 pm and sharing some behind-the-scenes tidbits.

The podcast host inquired, “Has anything ever caused you to halt recording due to a major issue?

In his 47 years, Grant found himself hesitant to share an unexpected incident from the game show set: a few contestants had fainted, causing a halt in filming – only to be temporarily replaced by stand-ins who resembled them.

He mentioned that, to the best of his knowledge, there are several individuals who may faint among us.

‘Up on the podium where people are holding the cases, it’s quite regular that someone goes down.’

Producers have a novel way of dealing with the issue, Grant admitted.

‘We quickly extract them from the area and we give them urgent medical attention,’ he went on.

‘And then we usually just replace them with someone else in the audience who looks close enough.

On no other TV program have I encountered this situation before. To be honest, I’m not certain as to the reason why it occurs in Deal or No Deal, but it does seem to be a distinctive aspect of the show.

The television presenter, marking 25 years in the broadcasting world this past January, revealed a surprising truth about his initial period as a fledgling journalist.

In a recent interview with The Courier Mail, he admitted that he figured out quite promptly that his skills as a journalist were less than stellar.

He went on saying: ‘At the time, I was relatively uninformed about the world, and one of my early assignments took me to a tragic car crash scene.’

‘Witnessing my first dead body was a stark and intense experience, one that made me question if I was truly suited for this.’

In another part of our conversation, Grant, who kicked off his professional journey at Prime TV in the New South Wales town of Wagga Wagga, expressed that he always felt inauthentic and like an imposter since his first day at work.

Expressing his fear, Grant said, “I find myself surrounded by accomplished journalists with college degrees, while I only just managed to graduate from high school.

After his wife, Cheryl ‘Chezzi’ Denyer, had a lengthy operation due to complications from post-pregnancy nerve damage, Grant eventually landed a notable job as a weather presenter for the Seven Network’s Sunrise program in 2006.

In 2018, he received one of the highest accolades on television when he was awarded the Gold Logie for the Most Popular Personality on Australian TV.

At present, Grant, the current host of Channel 10’s revamped game show Deal or No Deal, gained more admirers when he emerged victorious on Dancing with the Stars back in 2007.
