It’s been ten years since Ryan Reynolds first played Deadpool on the big screen. He perfectly captured the character’s unpredictable personality, sharp humor, and hidden kindness. The first Deadpool movie came out on February 12, 2016, followed by Deadpool 2 on May 18, 2018, and the newest film, Deadpool & Wolverine, on July 26, 2024.
Deadpool is famous for his incredibly funny one-liners and sharp, witty speeches. He’s truly a master of language – arguably the best talker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and crafting those lines takes a lot of work. Now, let’s get right to it: here are Deadpool’s 10 best movie quotes from the last decade.
“I Can’t Tell You, But It Does Rhyme With ‘Polverine.'”
‘Deadpool’

Twentieth Century Fox
From the very beginning, Deadpool – the wisecracking, chimichanga-loving hero – immediately tells the audience what to expect from his movie. He directly addresses viewers, breaking the fourth wall, and doesn’t hold back, all while casually sitting on the side of a highway seemingly doing arts and crafts.
Wade Wilson: “Oh. Oh, hi. Seriously, who did I have to… persuade to get my own movie? I can’t say, but the name rhymes with ‘olverine.’ And trust me, he’s got some impressive assets.”
As you’d expect from Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds doesn’t shy away from humor – even when describing Wolverine’s most private parts. This bold opening immediately grabs your attention and sets a frantic pace that never lets up. The scene also cleverly hints at the upcoming team-up in Deadpool & Wolverine, promising a funny and complicated relationship between the two heroes that fans will love to analyze.
“I Just Disturb Them.”
‘Deadpool’

Twentieth Century Fox
Sister Margaret’s School for Wayward Children (known as a school for girls in the movie) is full of troublemakers, and Wade Wilson is no exception. In fact, who could cause more chaos than Deadpool? In the first film, he even tells Weasel this himself.
Wade Wilson [ to Weasel]: “I don’t take the s**ts, I just disturb them.”
Honestly, as a movie fan, I always saw Wade as someone who thrives on chaos. He just loves to get a rise out of people, whether he’s using humor to deflect or just because he enjoys it. Like, even during that incredibly intense scene where Ajax is, well, torturing him to unlock his powers – and yes, that whole thing cured his cancer – Wade still manages to crack jokes! There’s this running gag where he points out Ajax has something stuck in his teeth, which totally defuses the tension. It’s almost funny, and it’s cool because Wade seems pretty self-aware about his own annoying habits.
“Wham!”
‘Deadpool’

Twentieth Century Fox
Forget the idea that romance is gone! This quote from Deadpool is easily one of the most romantic moments in any superhero film. Wade Wilson makes a heartfelt, though painful, attempt to push Vanessa away, all to keep her safe.
I absolutely promise that if we meet again in another life, I will serenade you with George Michael’s ‘Careless Whisper’ played on a boombox outside your window. Consider it a guarantee!
Many remember John Cusack from the 1989 movie Say Anything, where his character famously played Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” on a boombox outside his love interest’s window. Decades later, in Deadpool 2, Wade does a similar thing to apologize to Colossus, but uses his phone to play the same song.
The scene where Wade plays “Careless Whisper” feels complete by the end of the first movie, as he performs the song for Vanessa after winning his fight with Ajax.
“You Think Ryan Reynolds Got This Far on His Superior Acting Method?”
‘Deadpool’

Twentieth Century Fox
There’s something instantly likable about a mercenary who can joke about themselves. In the movie Deadpool, Wade says this very thing to Blind Al, and it’s not the only time Ryan Reynolds playfully references himself within the Deadpool films. For example, in Deadpool 2, he signs a cereal box with his own name while staying at the Essex House for Mutant Rehabilitation.
The movie also includes a hilarious post-credits scene where Wade uses time travel technology to shoot Ryan Reynolds (playing himself), stopping the 2011 film Green Lantern from ever being made. He even shoots his younger self from the 2009 movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The Deadpool movies sometimes rely a little too much on self-deprecating humor, but when it’s done right, like in that scene, it’s incredibly effective.
“More Money Than the Guy Who Invented Pants.”
‘Deadpool 2’

Twentieth Century Fox
Okay, so in Deadpool 2, Deadpool finally asks what we’ve all been wondering for two movies: why do we only ever see Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead when it comes to the X-Men? What happens next is seriously funny – Deadpool starts ranting about the studio just throwing us those two as a little X-Men treat while the real X-Men are apparently right next door! He doesn’t actually see them, though – Beast quietly closes the door before Deadpool can get a good look.
In a quick appearance, Deadpool 2 brings back several X-Men characters played by Nicholas Hoult (Beast), James McAvoy (Professor X), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), and Evan Peters (Quicksilver) as Deadpool talks.
You’d expect the studio to give us something—anything—that isn’t a complete disaster. The first movie was incredibly profitable. Why can’t they revive one of the well-known X-Men characters? Like that annoying guy with the huge wings? Honestly, what do those wings even do? Lift him a few feet off the ground to grab a stray crumb?
“My Superpower Is Just Unbridled Cancer.”
‘Deadpool 2’

Twentieth Century Fox
Deadpool is known for teasing the Avengers, likely because he’s frustrated they won’t let him become a member – a running gag highlighted in the movie Deadpool & Wolverine. He often picks on Hawkeye, as seen in a scene from Deadpool 2 where, after arriving at the Ice Box, Wade tells Russell:
Wearing this collar feels like it’s given me a terrible, uncontrollable illness. If I had a bow and arrow, I’d feel a little more like the superhero Hawkeye.
The collar effectively cancels out Wade’s powers, so his illness is the real issue. That being said, it’s worth pointing out that Hawkeye is genuinely skilled with a bow and arrow. – A person who can’t hit the broad side of a barn.
“Well, Guess What, Wolvie?”
‘Deadpool 2’

Twentieth Century Fox
Staying true to Deadpool’s style, the second movie starts with another nod to Wolverine. However, this time Wade isn’t as nice when talking about Logan.
I can’t stand Wolverine. He benefited from my movie getting an R-rating, and now he tries to one-up me by having his character die? That’s just awful. But guess what? My character is dying in this one, too.
It’s clear someone is jealous of all the attention Logan got. At least Wade follows through on his promise and dies in this installment as well. His death scene is long, funny, and perfectly captures Deadpool’s personality – it’s all about him, breaks the fourth wall, and is filled with insults disguised as compliments.
“Is Dubstep Still a Thing?”
‘Deadpool 2’

Twentieth Century Fox
Wade and Russell first meet Cable in a place called the Ice Box. Cable attempts to kill Russell, who goes by Firefist, because Russell is responsible for the deaths of Cable’s wife and daughter in a future timeline. Though Wade initially acts like he doesn’t care about Russell and says he’s not a friend, he surprisingly steps in to protect him, even though he doesn’t have any superpowers. Once Wade learns that Cable is from the future, he naturally has a lot of questions.
So, you’re telling me you’re from the future? If so, I’ve got a few questions. First, is dubstep music still popular? Second, how many Sharknado movies have there been? And finally, when will people get tired of seeing robots with arms in everything?
Cable really insults Wade’s taste in dubstep, which is practically a declaration of war. Hopefully, the Sharknado movies continue forever – maybe in 3,000 years they’ll be the only thing keeping a broken and chaotic future society from falling apart completely.
“Who’s This Succulent Reminder of My Own Inadequacies?”
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

Marvel Studios
In Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool and Wolverine team up with characters like Gambit, X-23, Blade, and Elektra while trapped in the Void. When Deadpool first meets Gambit, he can’t help but make a playful jab at Hawkeye.
Oh, great. Here’s a perfect example of everything I’m not. You’re like, the super-powered version of Hawkeye – seriously?
The word “succulent” often brings to mind delicious Chinese food, and that’s likely why this quote is so humorous. It seems Hawkeye is the butt of the joke again, and even though he doesn’t deserve it, it’s still pretty funny.
“Welcome to the MCU”
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

Walt Disney Studios
The team-up fans had been waiting for—Deadpool and Wolverine—finally happened in the movie Deadpool & Wolverine. After a sequence showing Deadpool searching for Wolverine, the unlikely duo arrives at the Time Variance Authority. It’s there that Deadpool turns to Wolverine and says:
“Welcome to the MCU, by the way. You’re joining at a bit of a low point.”
Wade repeatedly calls himself “Marvel Jesus” in the film, positioning himself as the savior of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Deadpool & Wolverine. While it’s not the strongest installment in the series – the plot is a bit thin and relies heavily on cameos to please fans – the movie becomes more fun if you approach it as what it is: a lighthearted, fan-focused adventure.

It’s unexpected to see Deadpool and Wolverine acknowledging their flaws as they officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You’d think Marvel would avoid pointing out any weaknesses. However, this candid moment, along with films like Wonder Man, makes me optimistic about the future of the franchise.
