Deadpool & Wolverine’s tribute explained: Who was Raymond Chan?

As a huge fan of Marvel movies, I was completely blown away by “Deadpool & Wolverine.” The film delivered on all fronts with its perfect blend of humor, action, and cameos. But what truly touched my heart was the emotional tribute at the end of the movie.

The film featuring Deadpool and Wolverine is filled with humor, intense action, and surprising appearances from Marvel characters. However, it momentarily touches the heartstrings with a poignant tribute towards the end.

In the latest installment, titled a “threequel,” Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, and Wolverine, portrayed by Hugh Jackman, join forces on the big screen to protect their universe from impending danger. This highly anticipated film is now available in cinemas, projected to be the most explosive blockbuster of the summer season.

After watching a Marvel Cinematic Universe film at the theater and sitting through all the ending credits, you may find yourself pondering over who the two individuals are that the movie was devoted to.

Deadpool & Wolverine’s tribute explained: Who was Raymond Chan?

In the comic book collaboration between Deadpool and Wolverine, there’s a heartfelt acknowledgment for the late Raymond Chan, our gifted art director and production designer, who tragically passed away in April.

I’m deeply moved by the heartfelt dedication of this film to the memory of Raymond Chan. He was more than just a colleague or a co-worker to us; he was our rock, our anchor. The impact of his talent and commitment to our projects, including this one, was a priceless gift that we never took for granted and will forever cherish. Ray’s absence leaves a void that can never be filled, and we will carry the memories of his kindness, professionalism, and unwavering dedication with us always. Rest in peace, dear Ray.

Previously, Chan contributed to various Marvel Cinematic Universe productions such as “Avengers: Endgame,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” and the Disney+ shows “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier,” prior to joining the team for “Deadpool & Wolverine.”

On April 26, Ryan Reynolds shared an emotional goodbye message to Ray Chan on Twitter/X.

“Words are pretty inadequate in comparison to this loss,” he wrote.

“His irreplaceable pool of ability, determination, and artistry is sorely missed among us. As Production Designer, he played a vital role in shaping the creative vision for ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Wolverine,’ contributing alongside the writers, director, and actors.”

“Ray’s artistic abilities were extraordinary and it was rare to meet someone who combined this level of creativity with such genuine humanity. He had a unique talent for constructing entire worlds from scratch, always involving others in the process. Ray stood out as one-of-a-kind and it was a pleasure to be near him.”

Ray Chan is not the only person who is remembered at the end of Deadpool & Wolverine.

Who was Henry Delaney?

Following Ray Chan’s tribute, Deadpool & Wolverine ends with the words: “For Henry Delaney.”

Henry, who was just two when he tragically passed away in 2018, was the young son of actor Rob Delaney. Known for portraying the character Peter in films, Rob Delaney’s child bravely fought against brain cancer.

Henry brought great joy to us. He was intelligent, amusing, and full of mischief. Our experiences together were filled with happiness, especially after he returned home from spending fifteen months at the hospital. (Delaney’s Facebook message after Henry’s death)

In his 2023 memoir titled “A Heart That Works,” the “Catastrophe” star shared insights about a personal loss.
