Deadpool & Wolverine’s Ryan Reynolds addresses his future in the MCU
As a lifelong Marvel fan and die-hard Deadpool enthusiast, I must say that the latest installment of Deadpool & Wolverine has been nothing short of exhilarating! The film’s success not only solidified Ryan Reynolds as the perfect embodiment of our favorite anti-hero but also brought together two iconic characters in a way that left fans begging for more.
Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds has addressed his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Since the debut of Deadpool and Wolverine, there’s been an overwhelming response worldwide, making it the top-earning Deadpool film in the series so far. Now, fans can’t wait to discover what’s coming up for the wisecracking anti-hero known as the Merc with a Mouth.
In an interview with Collider, Ryan Reynolds shared insights on what lies ahead for Wade Wilson (Deadpool) after the box office triumph of the third film. He clarified that he and director Shawn Levy hadn’t planned a sequel when making the movie.
Reynolds expressed that Shawn and he have been quite explicit about their situation. In a caring manner, because discussing the best challenge any individuals might encounter is managing a studio that constantly asks, “What’s next?” or “How can we create something new?”, he said.
However, this film was crafted as a standalone masterpiece, not intended to serve as an advertisement for another production. It wasn’t designed to promote anything else, and I find immense satisfaction in creating such an independent piece of cinema.
Currently, I’m uncertain if I’ll put on the Deadpool suit once more in the future; I really wish I would, but I can’t say for sure. At this point, it seems best to take a break from wearing it and wait to see what comes next.
As a devoted admirer, I recently shared some insights on Disney’s role in the production of this groundbreaking Marvel Studios movie – the first R-rated film within their franchise. In discussing my creative process, I emphasized that I never experienced any pressure to contribute another installment to the series.
Levy was often questioned with, “Did you feel compelled to contribute to the next film or establish something within the Marvel’s Avengers series?”
Indeed, it’s worth noting that neither Disney nor Marvel have ever pressured us for more than a standalone tale that fully satisfies. With their backing, we delivered just that. Therefore, regarding what lies ahead, only time can reveal the answer.
Deadpool & Wolverine is now playing in cinemas.
