Deadpool & Wolverine: Nathan Fillion’s Headpool Cameo Came After Scrapped Roles in First 2 Movies

Since 2009, Nathan Fillion has appeared in a total of twelve superhero films, most recently as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern in James Gunn’s Superman. Yet, it might come as a shock to fans that Fillion supplied the voice for Headpool in the 2024 release, “Deadpool & Wolverine.

Fillion’s journey into portraying superheroes started with lending his voice to the Vigilante character on Justice League Unlimited, but he is most recognized for voicing Hal Jordan/Green Lantern in various DC animated films. He voiced this character in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights (2011), Justice League: Doom (2012), Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013), Justice League: Throne of Atlantis (2015), The Death of Superman (2018), and Reign of the Supermen (2019). He also voiced Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman (2009), appeared as T.D.K. in The Suicide Squad (2021), and made appearances in all three of Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy films, although his scenes in Vol. 2 were eventually removed.

How did Nathan Fillion end up voicing Headpool in Deadpool & Wolverine?

During a conversation with Entertainment Weekly regarding his role as Guy Gardner in Superman for the DC Universe, Fillion disclosed how he came to voice Headpool in Deadpool & Wolverine. He explained that this opportunity could be traced back to 2016, during the filming of the first Deadpool production.

Nathan Fillion mentioned that he was initially part of the first Deadpool film, but his scene didn’t make it to the final cut. Since he was busy with Castle at the time, his role must have been minor. He asked for the character to be unrecognizable. If you purchase the movie digitally, you might find a deleted scenes section that includes his performance as the towel guy at the strip club where Vanessa worked – this is one of the bonus features on the home video release.

Later on, Fillion shared that Ryan Reynolds had invited him for an audition in Deadpool 2, which was quite gracious of him. We’ve remained connected since then. I must say, he is a very generous individual, always eager to share success with others. With so many fantastic opportunities at his disposal, he enjoys remembering his friends and distributing these chances among them.

Nothing came to fruition until Deadpool & Wolverine, when Reynolds requested Fillion to lend his voice as a favor to him. “I’m doing him a favor,” the actor joked. “We recorded various lines. We began with one character, then shifted to becoming Headpool, and then we were tinkering with jokes.

Fillion has been featured in a select group of actors who have acted in both the DC Universe on Screen (DCU) and the Marvel Cinematic World.

As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share that Deadpool and Wolverine are now streaming on Disney+! On the other hand, if you prefer the big screen experience, don’t miss out on Superman, currently playing in cinemas worldwide. Enjoy your binge-watching or movie-going adventures!
