Deadpool & Wolverine breaks two unexpected Guinness World Records

As a seasoned gamer with decades of Marvel comic books, movies, and video games under my belt, let me tell you, I was absolutely thrilled to see Wesley Snipes reprising his iconic role as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine. The guy has been an integral part of my gaming universe since the early 90s!

Deadpool & Wolverine spoilers follow.

Deadpool & Wolverine star Wesley Snipes has broken two unexpected Guinness World Records.

In the most recent Marvel hit movie, the actor once again took on his iconic half-vampire role of Blade, which he first portrayed in 1998. This means he now holds the record for the longest career playing a live-action Marvel character, as reported by Deadline.

Snipes narrowly beat out Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman, who first appeared in X-Men 24 years ago.

Initially, it was anticipated that Jackman would surpass Patrick Stewart’s record, as both actors initially portrayed Charles Xavier in “X-Men.” However, Stewart will reprise his role in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” set for 2022.

Snipes’s recent appearance in the Marvel movies holds the title for the most extended time gap between portrayals of a character in these films. He last donned the role of Blade over 19 years prior, in the blockbuster film “Blade: Trinity” from 2004, which also featured Ryan Reynolds as Hannibal King.

Prior to this, the record was maintained by Alfred Molina, renowned for his portrayal of Doctor Octopus in the 2004 film Spider-Man 2 and more recently in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).

In the third installment of the Deadpool franchise, the action-packed collaboration between Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) and Logan (Hugh Jackman) unfolds. Their joint mission: to vanquish the formidable foe, Cassandra Nova, portrayed by Emma Corrin.

Previously, I hadn’t thought there was a chance for me to return to my role in the upcoming movie, but then, surprisingly, Reynolds reached out.

He shared with Entertainment Weekly during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con that he hadn’t expected us to succeed in what we were attempting.

As a lifelong fan of Marvel comics, I was initially skeptical when Disney announced their acquisition of the company. However, after seeing the success of films like “The Avengers” and “Guardians of the Galaxy,” my doubts began to fade. Then, news broke that Mahershala Ali would be joining the Marvel universe in a future project, which solidified my belief that Disney is taking Marvel in the right direction. I’m excited to see what they have planned for this beloved franchise.

Snipes expressed that it seemed unusual to him, but when an unexpected call came from Ryan Reynolds after 20 years, he responded, “I better pick up this call and find out what this is all about.”

“He told me the idea… They said ‘yes’ and ‘it’s a go’. ‘If you’re in, we’re in’. Here we are.”

In a unique gathering reminiscent of Marvel’s past and present, Deadpool and Wolverine brought together various stars who have graced the Marvel universe, such as Chris Evans reprising his Johnny Storm (Human Torch) character from earlier times.

Additionally, the movie features brief appearances by Dafne Keen portraying Laura/X-23, Jennifer Garner in the role of Elektra, and Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau/Gambit.

Deadpool & Wolverine is in cinemas now.
