Deadpool Will Never Be an Avenger

Regardless of the number of years that have elapsed, the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to accelerate its output of movies in theaters and on Disney+. One of the most eagerly awaited upcoming Marvel films is titled Avengers: Doomsday, and viewers are intrigued about which characters could potentially make an appearance within the film. Some fans hope for a cameo by Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool, but the actor/filmmaker has recently commented on crossovers, explaining why the character should never be part of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

What we know about Avengers: Doomsday is pretty slim, but Marvel’s live-stream revealed some of the actors who will appear. Reynolds was not included, but that hasn’t stopped moviegoers from hoping he has a role. In a video on Time’s Instagram, he was asked if Deadpool could play a supporting role in crossover projects. He responded:

In my opinion, yes, that character works well when all else is stripped from him. His skin and face are marked by scars, he’s bald, and he wears a mask out of embarrassment. I essentially reimagined the character; in the initial film, I told a tale of shame, while for the sequel, it was about family, and this new installment focuses on redemption. I believe we effectively portrayed redemption because redemption is an essential aspect of American sports culture, if I may say so myself. The sensation of longing for something or someone without realizing you’ve missed them is a distinctive emotion that the audience can connect with deeply.

By nature, Deadpool is a character often considered the underdog. Known for breaking the fourth wall and embodying chaos, he’s usually left bruised from his various escapades. Ryan Reynolds has intricately planned three storylines for the trilogy, making fans eager to see how the story of Wade Wilson might unfold should he appear in an Avengers film.

Outside of instances such as the X-Men appearance in Deadpool 2 and the multiversal chaos in The Void for Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds’ films have primarily been self-contained stories. Fans are excitedly anticipating him being part of an Avengers movie, which was previously thought to be unattainable until Disney took over 20th Century Fox.

Discussing the concept of crossovers, Ryan Reynolds expressed the significance of his iconic character not becoming part of any major Marvel Cinematic Universe teams. Put simply, in his own words:

“Ryan Reynolds emphasized the importance of keeping his primary character away from joining one of the MCU’s main teams.

Preference for solitude: I prefer things on their own. If Deadpool were to join the X-Men or Avengers, it would be disastrous. That’s his dream come true, and we can’t let that happen.

This version maintains the original meaning while using more natural language that is easier for a reader to understand.

It seems logical that if Deadpool were to become an Avenger, there would be no room left for him. Whether this means he won’t appear in movies like “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Secret Wars,” is yet to be determined. However, if a crossover occurs, it’s unlikely that he will officially join any of the major teams.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my anticipation for Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as Wade Wilson. Unfortunately, he himself has made it clear that Deadpool 4 won’t be hitting the big screen anytime soon. Therefore, if we don’t see him in the upcoming Avengers films, it seems we might have to exercise a bit of patience before we can once again enjoy his witty portrayal of the Merc with a Mouth.

The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, titled “Thunderbolts* “, is set to premiere in theaters on May 2nd, as part of the 2025 movie schedule. For now, we’ll need to be patient for further updates regarding “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars“.
