As a self-proclaimed connoisseur of romantic comedies and someone who has watched their fair share of Bollywood movies (and a few too many rom-coms featuring Ryan Reynolds), I can confidently say that “A Nice Indian Boy” is set to become a modern classic.
The film titled “A Nice Indian Boy,” featuring Karan Soni from “Deadpool” and Jonathan Groff of “Mindhunter,” has earned a flawless rating on Rotten Tomatoes following its initial critical appraisals.
As a fervent admirer, I’m eagerly anticipating the forthcoming movie that promises a vibrant, queer and Indian twist on the classic rom-com formula. In this captivating tale, Soni and Groff grace our screens as Naveen and Jay, two individuals whose love story unfolds in a whirlwind of emotions, culminating in an unexpected engagement.
Yet, Naveen hasn’t introduced his family to Jay, who may not match their expectations.

Although the movie hasn’t been given an official release date yet, it premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival earlier this year and is being screened at the BFI London Film Festival right now.
Currently, as I type this, the film “A Nice Indian Boy” boasts a remarkable 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on nine professional critic reviews.
Here’s what some of the critics have been saying:
The Hollywood Reporter
In the end, individuals who typically shy away from sentimentality, such as Naveen and myself, may find themselves captivated by its subtle yet reliable appeal.
Collider
This work isn’t just reminiscent of beloved classics from the ’90s and early 2000s, but it also tells a heartfelt queer love story that surpasses some of the heteronormative romances recently offered on streaming platforms.

Screen Rant
A Nice Indian Boy” skillfully merges romance and humor, adds a touch of culture, and sprinkles in plenty of emotion. The onscreen pairing of Karan Soni and Hamilton’s Jonathan Groff is spot-on, and the challenges they encounter – both personal and familial – are sensitively portrayed with warmth and understanding.
Mashable
This film is a vibrant, action-packed queer romance comedy that offers a remarkably original concept. Although it shares similarities with numerous contemporary tales of mixed cultures, it expands its boundaries in unexpected manners, mirroring and magnifying both individual and cinematic self-expression.
IndieWire
A young man of Indian origin charms by breaking stereotypes, while still adhering to the classic narrative of romance.
A Nice Indian Boy is yet to receive a UK release date.
