Deadpool and Wolverine is the perfect send off for Fox's Marvel Universe

As a long-time fan of the X-Men and Wolverine in particular, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and excitement with the release of “Deadpool and Wolverine.” Fox’s Marvel Universe may have come to an end, but this film offers a fitting farewell to some of my favorite characters and actors.

After the premiere of “Deadpool and Wolverine,” Fox’s Marvel Universe officially concludes. This film marks the first appearance of Deadpool and various other characters who were previously unique to Fox in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The highly anticipated collaboration between Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is also showcased in this movie.

The movie establishes Deadpool strongly as a potential member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and hints at his future involvement, although it can still be enjoyed on its own. This first R-rated MCU production served two purposes: introducing Wade Wilson to the broader franchise and simultaneously bidding farewell to Fox’s X-Men series.

In an unexpected turn of events, the movie “Deadpool & Wolverine” keeps Deadpool from permanently merging into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s main timeline with his character choosing to remain in his own universe instead. Nevertheless, the incorporation of the TVA (Time Variance Authority) and The Void serving as the primary setting allowed for an heartfelt send-off for the Fox Marvel characters.

In The Void, several pivotal figures emerged, among them being some mutants from earlier X-Men productions and their original actors reprising their roles. The antagonists included Sabretooth (Tyler Mane), Toad (Ray Park), Juggernaut, Lady Deathstrike, and Aaron Stanford portraying Pyro once more. Of all these adversaries, Pyro played the most significant part.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled that many of my favorite actors got the opportunity to reprise their roles as iconic villains in this production. This not only allowed these characters to engage with each other once more, but also provided fans with long-awaited scenes like an epic showdown between Wolverine and Sabretooth, and a heart-pounding clash between X-23 and Juggernaut.

In this rendition, the film didn’t limit the limelight to the antagonists alone. Instead, it provided a comeback for certain classic Fox characters and actors who previously missed their moment to shine. These characters weren’t part of the X-Men universe but were brought to life thanks to the intricacies of the Multiverse saga, which featured the TVA and The Void. By merging these distinct storylines, Marvel granted fans an unforgettable experience by introducing a captivating ensemble of characters.

Some beloved characters make their comeback, including Jennifer Garner as Elektra in “Daredevil” (2003) and “Elektra” (2005). Chris Evans brings excitement back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not as Captain America, but by reprising his role of Johnny Storm/Human Torch from the “Fantastic Four” films of the 2000s. Wesley Snipes returns in his iconic part of Blade from the initial trilogy of movies. These appearances led to thrilling, amusing, and lasting scenes, providing these characters an opportunity to regain the spotlight after a long absence.

Dafne Keen’s X-23 character came back in the film, providing an opportunity for Channing Tatum to display his unique take on Gambit. Tatum’s performance was undeniably funny. The cameos and unexpected appearances seamlessly integrated into the plotline, creating an enjoyable experience where Deadpool and Wolverine seemed like characters from one cohesive early 2000s Marvel Universe production. This not only allowed the mutants to excel but also showcased the depth of the Fox Marvel Universe.

In simpler terms, the film beautifully honors the Fox Marvel Universe while serving as an ideal finish for Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool series and Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine. Although it likely isn’t their last appearance as these characters, it represents a significant juncture where we say goodbye to the past and begin a new storyline. The film offers an exciting blend of bloodshed, brutality, and sharp wit.

In this rendition, the movie grants Deadpool and Wolverine their shining moments, allowing them to collaboratively safeguard the multiverse. Logan remains true to his self-sacrificing variant, thereby atoning for past misdeeds. Simultaneously, Deadpool achieves his long-held aspiration of making a difference, ultimately reuniting with Wolverine as cherished members of an expanded family.

The film’s ending neatly wraps up the tales of Deadpool and Wolverine, making it an ideal place to conclude their stories permanently. It serves as a fitting goodbye for these Fox Marvel Universe characters, although there’s still room for them to reappear. Their departures leave a satisfying sense of closure.
