Ryan Reynolds‘ idea for Deadpool 4 is a smart move.
Ryan Reynolds has been playing the Marvel character Wade Wilson, also known as Deadpool, since the first Deadpool movie came out in 2016. After Deadpool 2 in 2018, his character officially became part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine, alongside Hugh Jackman. It’s currently unclear whether Reynolds will appear in the next two Avengers movies, titled Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
What did Ryan Reynolds say about Deadpool 4?
A fourth Deadpool movie is being discussed, but Marvel Studios hasn’t announced when it might come out. Ryan Reynolds has expressed his interest in continuing his role as Deadpool, though.
Ryan Reynolds revealed on the Sunday Sitdown Live show that he’s already started brainstorming ideas and has some material outlined for a potential Deadpool 4 movie.
He added that he likely wouldn’t focus on this character as the main one anymore, seeing him more as a valuable member of the ensemble cast. He excels as part of a team.
Ryan Reynolds has hinted that his character, Wade, might have a different role in future Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. He’s expressed interest in a team-up film where Wade isn’t the main focus, and instead plays a supporting role in someone else’s story.
That’s a great choice. We’ve seen plenty of Deadpool in the last ten years, and the movies are most enjoyable when he interacts with other major characters. Going straight back to a solo Deadpool film after teaming up with Wolverine could quickly make the humor feel stale. Instead, using him in a supporting role is a smart way to give us the Deadpool we love without overexposing him in the MCU.
Reynolds could really benefit from a positive public image boost after the recent drama involving Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, and the movie ‘It Ends With Us’. While making him the main focus of ‘Deadpool 4’ might annoy people, having Deadpool as a supporting character could help him rebuild a positive relationship with audiences.
