Deadlock isn’t out yet, but cheats are starting to pile up already

As a seasoned gamer who’s been around the block since the days of Quake and Counter-Strike, I can’t help but feel a sense of deja vu when it comes to Deadlock‘s cheating issue. The sight of cheaters ruining games is nothing new, but it’s always disheartening to see it happen in a game that has so much potential.

The growing playerbase of Deadlock is concerned about how Valve will deal with cheaters.

Despite still being in its early stages, Valve’s innovative title, Deadlock – a blend of hero shooter and multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genres – has already attracted a significant number of cheaters.

Recently, the increase of cheaters in Deadlock has sparked intense discussion within the gaming community, as players are worried about Valve’s ability to effectively combat these issues. Anyone familiar with CS:GO or CS2 from previous years is well-aware that Valve has struggled to prevent spin botters and wallhackers from contaminating their official servers.

One recent post about cheaters on Deadlock’s subreddit gathered over 600 comments as people discussed footage of players blatantly using aimbot. While I didn’t see any player running aimbot on my Deadlock matches, I was sure a player was using wallhack the other day as they always had good timings and reads.

Currently, Deadlock doesn’t have a direct reporting feature for cheaters since it’s currently in an early stage of development. However, you can report suspicious activities through the game’s official Discord server.

How to report cheaters in Deadlock

At present, reporting cheaters in Deadlock can be done exclusively through Discord. Should you encounter someone utilizing cheats within Deadlock, here’s a simple guide for submitting your report:

  1. Launch Deadlock and you’ll see a button to join the Discord on the main menu. After you click it, you’ll gain an invite link and all you have to do is copy and paste it on Discord.
  2. Once you’re inside of the official Deadlock Discord server, access #Reports on the left-side corner.
  3. Use the !cheats command to type a message and report someone for using cheats in Deadlock. Your message must contain the hero, matchID, and the type of cheat with timestamps included. If you want to, you can also link a video containing evidence, which will accelerate the process of banning the player.

What type of cheats exist for Deadlock?

  • Wallhack: Allows players to see through walls and simply gather information or even give them insight to shoot other people through walls.
  • Aimbot: This hack makes players shoot automatically at others with great accuracy. There are variations of aimbot in which players also spin automatically while shooting to make it harder for them to get killed.

With the passing years, it’s probable that unscrupulous developers will produce an increasing number of hacks for Deadlock, considering its distinctiveness and the uniqueness of its characters.

Is Deadlock’s future in danger because of cheaters?

Although players have valid reasons to be cautious about Deadlock due to Valve’s apparent lack of action against cheaters in CS2, it might be premature to express concern over the game’s future. At this stage, Deadlock is still under development and hasn’t yet been equipped with Valve’s Anti-Cheat system.

At the moment, it might be wiser to observe and learn about Valve’s future actions instead of forming opinions based solely on past occurrences.
