The roommate of Todd Meadows, a crew member on the reality TV show Deadliest Catch, says that Meadows’ death at sea was filmed.
The US Coast Guard is investigating the death of a man named Meadows, who fell overboard from the fishing vessel Aleutian Lady in the Bering Sea on February 25, 2026, according to the Daily Mail.
I was so saddened to hear about the loss of Trey John Green III, a fellow cast member from our Discovery Channel show. We actually shared a bunk while filming, and it’s incredibly tough to process that he’s gone at just 25 years old. He tragically passed away while crabbing off the Alaskan coast, and my heart goes out to his family and friends.
According to UsWeekly, Green recounted the tragic incident that led to the death of his shipmate, explaining that the crew ‘did everything we could to save him’ after he fell into the water.
I was so moved by what he said about the rescue. He really emphasized how incredibly difficult it is to try and save a life out on the water – it’s definitely ‘no easy task,’ as he put it. And he spoke so highly of Meadows, calling him an ‘amazing human,’ which just perfectly captures what everyone feels.
There was speculation about whether the death of Captain Jeff Meadows was captured on camera for the 22nd season of Deadliest Catch, and Sig Hansen has now confirmed that it was.
Okay, so filming for Discovery has wrapped, but we actually had a small crew – a producer and a camera operator – onboard for the last two months shooting content for season 22. It’s all captured, which is a relief! It wasn’t always easy getting the footage, but we managed it.
A security camera on the deck records constantly and captured all of the details from the incident, Green told UsWeekly.
The reality star admitted he doesn’t know what Discovery Channel plans to do with the video they have.
As a huge fan of Deadliest Catch, I’m excited to share that filming for Season 22 has wrapped! The Aleutian Lady was the very last boat still out fishing when they finished up, which is always a nail-biting moment to hear about.
Green said the fishing boat crew is taking time off to go home and grieve for their lost colleague, but they plan to return and finish filming the reality show.
He mentioned that Captain Rick Shelford had just taken him to the airport in Dutch Harbor. They’re heading home for a short break before returning to complete the fishing season.
This comes after harrowing new details over Meadows’ death were revealed.
It was awful. We found Mark Meadows after about ten minutes in the water, but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts to revive him, it just wasn’t possible. It was heartbreaking for all of us on board.
According to TMZ, Meadows’s body was taken to Dutch Harbor before arriving at the medical examiner’s office in Anchorage, Alaska, on February 27th.
An autopsy was performed and Meadows’s body was released on March 2.
On February 25, 2026, at 5:05 PM Alaska time, the US Coast Guard was notified that a crew member, Todd Meadows, had fallen overboard from the fishing vessel Aleutian Lady. The vessel was about 170 miles north of Dutch Harbor when the incident occurred, according to a statement released to Daily Mail.
The crew found him unconscious about ten minutes after he initially collapsed. They tried to help and revive him, but were unable to, and he was transported to Dutch Harbor where he was pronounced dead.
The Coast Guard stated they are investigating the incident. As the primary federal agency for maritime safety, they examine marine accidents to determine what happened and prevent similar events in the future.
The star of the Discovery Channel show, Captain Shelford, first shared the sad news on his Facebook page Monday morning.
Captain Shelford described Wednesday as the ‘most tragic day’ in the history of the Aleutian Lady, as Meadows had died onboard. He is survived by his three sons.
The Discovery Channel shared a statement with Daily Mail expressing their deep sadness over the death of Todd Meadows.
We are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family, fellow crew members, and everyone in the fishing community as they cope with this tragedy.
Captain Shelford shared in a heartfelt post that Meadows had recently joined the crew and rapidly became like family. His dedication and strong work ethic quickly earned the respect of the entire team.
He went on to share that the man’s smile was infectious, and they’ll never forget the sound of his laughter echoing through the ship or over the loudspeaker.
Todd was a loving father, family man, and a person who truly enjoyed life. He was known for his dedication, his warm heart, and his ability to make others smile.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m hearing that the producers of ‘Deadliest Catch’ were immediately notified about the recent incident. Sources tell me a memo was sent with information and resources to help everyone cope with the grief – which is absolutely the right thing to do in a situation like this. It’s so important to prioritize mental health and support during difficult times.
Captain Shelford shared in his statement that they are deeply heartbroken, and it’s difficult to put their feelings into words.
Please keep Todd’s children and family in your prayers and thoughts as they grieve his loss and navigate the difficult times ahead.
Even though Mark Meadows didn’t spend much time aboard, Captain Shelford finished his speech by saying Meadows had a significant positive effect on the ship and everyone who worked on it.
He shared that Todd will always be remembered as a cherished member of their team and close-knit group. Although he passed away prematurely, his spirit will continue to live on through his family and the memories they all share.
‘Rest easy brother, till we meet again.’
Paige Knutson created a GoFundMe to help support his family financially during a difficult time.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected death of Todd Morgan Meadows, a cherished 25-year-old father, son, brother, and friend. He passed away while pursuing his passion for crabbing in Alaska.
He was a devoted father to his three young sons, and they meant everything to him. He worked hard to make them happy, secure their future, and create lasting memories for them.
They explained that the money will be used to cover funeral costs and support the family as they cope with their loss in the coming months.
This devastating loss has deeply impacted his family. His children are now without a father, his parents have lost a son, and his siblings mourn the loss of a brother, leaving the entire family heartbroken.
Our hearts are with the family during this incredibly difficult time. We’re collecting donations to help support his three sons, cover the costs of the funeral, and provide financial assistance in the coming months. Every contribution, big or small, will directly help honor his memory and ensure his boys are well cared for, as he would have wished.
The Aleutian Lady is a 125-foot fishing boat that primarily catches King Crab, Bairdi crab, Opilio crab, and cod in the Bering Sea.
The ship, built in 1980, typically sails with a crew of five to eight people and is owned by Captain Shelford.
From 2023 to 2025, the fishing vessel Aleutian Lady and its captain, Shelford, appeared on the Discovery Channel’s reality show for three seasons – nineteen, twenty, and twenty-one.
