Dead by Daylight Finally Adds Friday the 13th’s Jason Voorhees

For years, Behaviour Interactive has added many famous horror villains to their game, Dead by Daylight, but Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th remained unavailable. Now, just in time for the game’s tenth anniversary next month, Jason is finally joining the hunt!

Good news for Dead by Daylight fans! Jason Voorhees is joining the game on June 16, 2026. A new trailer has just been released giving players a first look at his in-game appearance, including a new version of his iconic hockey mask from the Jason Universe project. You can watch the trailer below.

Jason Voorhees Goes After Survivors in Dead by Daylight

Over the years, Dead by Daylight has featured iconic villains from classic horror films. These include Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Michael Myers from Halloween, Pinhead from Hellraiser, and Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, to name just a few. Because of this, fans naturally hoped Jason Voorhees would be added to the game, but there were significant challenges preventing that from happening.

Soon after Dead by Daylight launched in 2017, Jason Voorhees appeared in the competing game, Friday the 13th: The Game. It’s likely the creators of Dead by Daylight wanted to keep Jason unique to their title, as the two games were rivals. Unfortunately, Friday the 13th: The Game was discontinued in 2020 and removed from stores in 2023, and ongoing licensing problems meant Jason couldn’t be used in other projects.

The Jason Universe Has Officially Begun

In 2024, Horror Inc. officially announced Jason’s return after settling all rights issues. They revealed plans for a new project—simply called ‘Jason’—which will bring the character to life across different forms of entertainment, including TV shows, movies, and video games. A redesigned Jason was also presented, and this new look will be used consistently whenever the character appears in any medium.

While rumors have circulated about new Jason movies and games, nothing official has been confirmed yet. However, a new take on Jason will appear in Crystal Lake, a series premiering on Peacock in October, featuring a younger version of the character. Last year, Jason also made a cameo in a short film called Sweet Revenge, created in partnership with Angry Orchard cider.

Jason joins Dead by Daylight on June 16, 2026.
